spoiler:

hero checks planning on calling

v checks

v2 had KQhh

v1 claims to have folded JJ but not sure if i believe him

think this is a very interesting hand from all angles

pre: v1 is working on a wide range but his raise is UTG and everyone folded thier wide calling ranges

yes pre is better to 3 bet in a vacuum but there there is a bunching effect here. when everyone folded I expected at least me the bb or utg to show up with an unusually strong hand.

wanted to play it for pure value didnt want either player to fold for fun and profit

i think checking the river after not 3betting pre was my biggest mistake of the session. we can rule out every hand in v2s range but KQ

when he checks turn he never has a hand that can beat AK but his hand is strong enough to flat flop so that leaves kj or kq

and he may not call a shove but he would have to call 500ish

yes i lost value not 3betting but i make a lot of that up by betting riv

Wasn't the King of Hearts flopped?

Honestly surprised V2 thinks KQ is ever good here, but good for you it sound like.

i think the flop was actually Kclub but he had KQs thankfully. whether it was diamonds or hearts i dont recall.

the 9 turned into a crap card for both of us

had i 3 bet pre to 200 stacks would have gone in pre. i really did not want to flip here. had i lost a flip id have had to leave the table.

maybe it sounds like an excuse but i had only so much bankroll left to sit at this table so i wanted to see a flop first

thanks for all the help..really appreciate it

If this is your mindset at the table, the you SHOULD leave the table. This is just a straight up fact if you want to be a good poker player.

Obviously villain specific but I think it would be dangerous to to assume you are ahead on river in general. If I was V2 and had flopped a set or had QJ in this situation I would often play it the same way. Flat your flop raise hoping V1 comes along. Then when you don't continue on turn I would put a lot of AK/KQ in your range and check behind rather then push you out of the pot. Give you a last chance to take the initiative on the river and put you in a situation where you are more likely to call a single value bet.
