I am relatively new to the table with about $600.

I raise UTG to $20 w/ 8s8h. 5 Callers, 6 way flop

Flop: QcJc7h
Checks around

Turn: 8d
SB leads out for $45. He has me covered.

Is this a good spot to raise to ~$110? I decide to call.

An EP player decides to call behind me. He has me covered.

River: 4c

SB Checks, Hero?, I decide to check. EP bets $110, SB folds, Hero?

I think my mistake was not raising the turn, but I would love to hear opinions. Not a spot I am in very often.

The most obvious draw of 9 10 got there on the turn, but SB is more likely to be betting his Q/J's hoping to take it down, this is enforced by his river check.
I don't think EP can have 9 10 either given the fact that he didn't raise the turn, I think most players would in this spot.

One thing is clear on the river, we aren't folding. I would probably just call as I can't think of any value hand which would raise after checking the turn, QJ would call a river raise/shove maybe but he is surely raising flop with that.

I would definitely raise the turn, expecting only to be 3-bet by the nuts (9 10) and called by 2p and other combo draws, then bet big on the river on a safe card like the 4c. Just my thoughts, not sure if they're optimal

Raise turn, bet sizing is quite suspicious for such a wet board multiway, also lots of worse made hands try to take it down after flop checks through

As played, I think river is a fold without an indication villain is bluffinf or light value betting there a lot

A small raise on the turn please, we want to both build a pot and deny opponents behind us good odds to draw out on us. SB didn't bet the river so 9-10 seems unlikely. EP might, but again, no raise on the turn - any halfway decent player raises the turn to get money in before a scare card hits.

River is an obvious raise-fold. If its $600 effective, raise to about $240 or so. Probably A fold to a re-raise.

Just folding here is the worst possible advice....

Raise the turn every time here.
As played, no way hero should be check raising the river after the flush hit.

What is it about 2+2ers always afraid of every three-flush board?

1) Flushes are really really rare.

2) EP didn't bet flop, just called a tiny bet on the turn - no raise - and is now betting after both the SB and Hero check to him on the river. You're telling me EP 100% shows up here with a flush? Sure, sometimes - but the idea that this is always a flush is just MUTB. We don't have any reads on Villains, but I've gotten weak/tight players to fold small flushes here before. Can be player-dependent; if player doesn't have a fold button it might just be a call.

3) BTW, Hero not betting the river is criminally bad, almost as bad as not raising the turn. I would still raise-fold the river here as played, but this should have been a bet-fold on the river.

Im on board with bet/fold the river but check raise is really bad. Hes never calling without a flush and will fold almost every hand that you beat.

Its got to either be bet/fold...check/call...or check/fold depending on the player.

Thanks for the tips. I definitely should have raised the turn, and without that, bet folding the river would have been next best IMO.
