Table is very loose/passive, except for one other player (villain in this hand). We'd been staying out of each other's way all night, but he was solid, a good player, and the only reason we tangled here is because we were short handed at the time, so I raised his blind.

Hero has As6h, stack size about $900.

Villain has around $800.

Hero raises on the button to $20, my standard raise. I'm very aggressive, can easily have any two cards here. Buy hey, it's 5 handed and I have an ace, good enough for me. Villain calls. Villain says to hero "The battle of the random hands," it was a little funny, because it was very likely true.

Flop comes: Ac 9c 6c
Villain bets $30, hero raises to $95, Villain tanks for a minute or so and calls.

My thinking here is that villain, for sure, no doubt in my mind, has a flush. I've seen him donk with flushes 4 or 5 times in the past hour. His sizing was off as compared to normal, though. Generally he would best $40 or $45, so his smaller-than-usual bet and all the time he spent tanking makes me think his flush is just a baby.

The bet sizing here is important. Last time I did this, I had middle set and villain took note of it. I mostly know that because he outright said "$95? Must be a monster, nice set," and folded earlier, and I showed him, hoping I could use it later.

Turn: Kd
Villain checks, Hero checks behind.

A relative blank in this hand. I'm mostly checking here for pot control, I don't want him to be priced into anything because I already have plans for this pot. My plan is check turn, jam river over his $90 or so bet. He's capable of making fairly tight laydowns, and I think he feels his flush is beat already in trouble.

River: Kc
Villain bets $100, Hero raises all in,

Literally the best card in the deck for me. Now if villain feels I was playing a set into him, which I intentionally repped on the flop, I'm way, way ahead. On top of that, any hands I was running with a club in the hand are likely good now, as well.

What do you guys think of my line here, could I have played anything a bit differently?

I feel like I played it pretty well, and that my reads were really on during the hand. I'm open to constructive criticism!

Spoiler:
Villain says "That is the sickest river ever," and tanks for about 15 seconds before mucking 3c4c face up. "I just can't put you on a hand I can beat. That was good, nice hand." Offers $10 if I can show a bluff, so I show it and he laughs, "Damn, you had plans from the beginning. You're sick, dude, you're sick, get off my table." And we laugh together as I rake in the pot.

Should prob be posted in bbv since this is more narrative than actually seeking strat advice

Pre is meh. Raising the donk bet is fine, a bit high tho which polarizes his calling range and youll get less value from weaker, although its vil dependent obv. Check back turn is good. River is vil dependent again. If you have reads go for it.

Sounds more like youre seeking 'well done' and 'nice orchestration of your play' than 'help me understand how best to play this situation'

I mean, not really.

I wasn't really looking for anything, I just thought other people might find it interesting is all. :O

Awfully played by both of you.

If you're sure he has a flush (how can you be sure 5 handed when ranges are super wide????) then fold to the flop donk? I would normally raise here though, weird to put someone on a flush exclusively.

Wish I could get 5 flushes in an hour

I suppose it was just a soul read at that point. I just knew he had a baby flush, and that I could get him off of it with a single scare card.

Also obviously that king of clubs was not the "best card" in the deck for you, im assuming you could have made more value by improving to a full house

Oops! The flop was 7c, not 6c.

So before you saw the river, you had already decided to jam river over his bet?? Your plan was to raise him off a flopped flush heads-up?? The end result was fine given the perfect river card to do it with but your plan prior to that is definitely -EV.....

It was the plan on the turn, for sure. He's not the type to risk all his chips with a baby flush that already got repopped for 3x.

Absent the soul read, flop is an easy flat since we apparently actually have only one pair.

With the soul read, just fold. Trying to bluff people off flushes in a 5 handed game where you're opening the BTN super wide...just don't do it. Obviously your miracle card came on the river, and I agree with bluffing there, but just fold the flop.
