For some background, SB is a winning aggro reg. His 3-bet % is a tad on the high side and we've been battling this session. He's been barreling a lot of turns and has shown up with some no equity air balls from time to time.

I have a very reliable read that he's betting small on this texture with "pot control" hands with no diamond and air. If he had the Ad or flopped a set I am confident that he'd bet much larger.

Hero KdTd in BTN 2/5 live

Hero raises to $15, SB raises to $50, Hero calls

Flop ($105) QhJh9h
SB bets $40

Hero??

Is the flop supposed to be diamonds?

Assuming it's diamonds given title and second paragraph.

What's the effective stack, OP?

Given the read and description you know what to do (call), but I'd probably make it $125 vs. this guy anyways and hope he has something to come over the top with.

Lots of action killing turn cards and a flat on this texture, given that it's a 3! pot, looks pretty strong anyways

Sorry about that. Yes flop all diamonds and villain is starting the hand with 100bb ($500). Hero covers.

Spoiler, Hero calls

Flop ($185) 5s

Hero jams?? (~$400 effective)

I think I call again and keep up the story given complete blank. Turn jam looks hecka strong here. If he barrels river he may feels pot committed to our river jam if he has a piece of it.

Call and set the trap. After he bets turn $100 we’ve got him on the hook. You don’t want to blow him off his Ad bluffs, top pairs, or 2 pairs with a shove.

Flop is fine, but this is where you might want to raise. He could easily think you have the Ad if he doesn't. I'm not sure what he's calling with on the turn if you jam, but he has only $300 left, so go ahead. Lots of cards kill action on the river.

If you flat and he doesn't somehow catch up, I'm not sure how you make more money on the river.

How does V see you?

Results:

Flop ($105) QdJd9d
SB bets $40, Hero calls

Turn ($185) 5s
SB bets $100, Hero calls

River ($385) 5d
SB checks, Hero jams for $300 effective

Villain folds and shows KhTh.

Felt sick and obviously had to show. The quads over SF jackpot was a consideration to ensure villain wouldn't somehow hero fold a set OTT, but all things considered jam turn or small raise on the flop might be best.

Imo this result exemplifies why we should raise flop $125 like I said intially. Lots of action killing turn cards.. (diamond, K, Q, J, 9, 8 ) and a flat on this texture, given that it's a 3! pot, looks pretty strong anyways.

I think he finds a fold on a board pair as well given the preflop configuration. You could have all the sets here
