Howdy Ya’ll,

I recently made a jump up in stakes, from $1/2 NL to $2/5 NL. However, my bankroll is less than ideal for $2/5. So I buy in short, typically $300 (60BB) , hoping to run it up. I think this allows me to minimize my risks against the monster stacks while still being able to stack off without damaging my bankroll too badly.

As for my research on Short Stack Strategy (SSS), thepokerbank.com has an article that divides how to play when 40BB or less, 30BB or less, 20BB.... However, this article only scratches the surface on SSS. It left me wanting to know more.

http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy...l/short-stack/

This article lacks:

- How should one play 60BB? 70BB? 80BB?
- What Hands can 3-Bet when short?
- Should Position affect what you open when short?
- When is it ok to limp?
- Can I still target Fishes/bad Players? Or should I stick to only playing premium hands?

Much appreciation to whoever can answer these questions, provide more content or information, or provide feedback based on experience.

Example Hand:

$2/5 NL
9-Max

Hero’s Hand: A♥️Q♠️

Hero’s Stack: $300
Villain (VI) #1: Covers {TAG, Been relatively tight}
VI#2: $256 {Reg. that sticks to playing ABC}

PreFlop:
*Action Folds to CO*
CO (VI#1): OPENS $20
BU (V#2): CALLS
SB (Hero): 3-BET $100
BB (NIT): FOLD
CO: FOLD
BU: CALL

Flop: 9♠️6♥️5♥️ ($220)

SB(Hero): BET $100
BU (V#2): ALL-IN $156
SB: CALL

- Was Hero’s 3-Bet PreFlop correct?
- How should Hero have navigated the Flop?

Interested in what the replies will say about the short stacked strategy.

Your hand example is probably a check fold though.

Preflop is completely std, although marginal. Good sizing. Although I will say this is pretty marginal spot, probably just very slightly +EV yet extremely high variance. Wouldnt fault you for taking low variance line of folding but 3b is the std/"correct" play.

Postflop I'd snap jam, he has $156 and the pot is $220. We can never be folding here. He folds some non-zero percent of the time vs our jam as well.

You're not really shortstacking at 60BB. Play a standard game, but pay attention to IO because a lot of hands you might call with in LP become losers because you can't hit the home run the 5% of the time you get a good hand.

Thanks for the feedback on the sample hand guys.

What about the other questions on SSS itself?
