I am mid thirties and seen as solid tag, not too active as i have been a little card dead. Villain is a vegas kid with 700, i cover. although not a pro, he has another job, i asked earlier. Very goofy, nice kid. Definately plays a bit of poker, but definately not a serious player. Has been bluffing, in fact he told the guy next to him he bluffs all the time, although it crossed my mind he was messing with him. I raise two limpers on button w kjo. Villain calls in bb, and limpers call. Pot is 100 flop is j9xcc. Checks to me i bet 60. Villain calls, others fold. Pot is 220, turn is a blank. Bb checks, imreach for 175, villain gets his cards ready to fold. I pause, shuffle my chips and look over, then bet 100 figuring i want to try and get a call. He snap calls. River is an off suit q, which strikes me as a bad card because qj fills up, aj beats me, and j9 beats me now. Not as concerned with the gutterball getting there. What do i do here? Will add in my actions as after a few responses. Check call? Bet fold? Bet call?

Why do you think he would fold QJ to $175 but snap call for $100? Same with AJ.

J9 is likely playing as bluff catcher at most LLSNL tables, and I doubt he's merging with it as well, so I am discounting it quite a bit.

Given that villain likes to bluff and that he may have perceived your hesitation and bet sizing as weakness, I would call here.

You were never ahead of AJ and J9 was beating you on the flop.

I wouldn't change anything based on a guy acting whether you think it's genuine or not, keep the 175 bet on the turn.

Curious as to what you're hoping he c/c your river bet with that you beat (you were betting for value)... anything besides JT paying you off do you think?

I dont think thats his only range, of course he calls both bet sizes with those hands. Obviously f draws are in his range, so i put him on that also. Sorry, i miswrote the first part. As for the second, this is kind of what i was looking for. After the hand i decided a check call was probably a better river line. I guess maybe a pair calls putting me on a busted draw or thinking i was repping a jack with air, but thats a stretch. Maybe the small bet induced a shove, and i subconciously, accidentally played it perfectly, but that is likely wishful thinking!

If he's as loose as he told the guy next to him he was a river bet for value is fine (i'd prefer hand observations to what he says though lol), still sucks when he c/r shoves though.

Can you correct what you wrote incorrectly? Was the flop J9J? I don't see the trips you mentioned in the thread's title.
