1/3 Live 10-Handed (No Rake, Time Charge)

I’m in BTN with $100. Everyone else has $200 or more. Every one folds to CO.

I’ve never played with him. We’ve only played seven hands on this table and he has folded all his hands. He is in his late 20s and has a Spanish accent.

He raises to $6.

I look down at Kc Qs. I raise to $25.

Everyone folds except BB. He is a tall old white guy with glasses. Like the CO, I've never played with him and he has folded all his hands so far. He calls and CO calls.

Flop ($76): Jc 7s 5h

Your play?

Minatorr, you would never try a small c-bet on this dry board? Like $20, 1/4 the pot?

Would you take a stab if you had a larger stack?

C/F. Smaller 3b sizing. Can you top off?

Assuming both players checked to you, good spot to shove. You have just enough for a pot-sized bet. You’ll get a decent amount of equity to fold, and hands like AK or AQ that are ahead. maybe even as good as a J sometimes will fold because your 3bet in this player pool reeks strongly of an overpair. You’re also not in terrible position if someone calls unless they’ve a set or 2p (unlikely in a 3bet pot).

Sorry, I forgot to write this.

They both checked to me on the flop.

Sorry one more point. If you’re going to be 3betting with this hand with this short stack, IMO your plan needs to be shoving a non-insignificant amount of the time. And a flop that gives you two overs, no straights on board, and no obvious 2 pairs is a decent spot for a bluff

if you insist on playing short stacked

Then at the very least implement a short stack strategy.

you pre flop raise to $25
before you even did that your plan should have been
to shove any flop checked to you

otherwise just call or fold pre

plans and moves change with stack sizes
you can't control your opponents BUT you can control yours.

Anything to make of the minraise? With this small a stack facing a LP open I'm mostly fine with 3betting, although I'd likely make it more like ~$30ish to setup a PSB shove on any flop (maximizing FE preflop and on flop)

Kinda gross that old guy got involved but with just a PSB left and checked to us I think I mostly just jam here. TT- is in a tough spot and we can still suck out 25% if called, and meanwhile Ax will have to fold.

I shove for $75.

BB thinks about calling. He talks to his buddy, "Does he have Queens? I don't know how he plays." After about a minute, he folds.

CO calls with Js 8s. I don't hit my overcards so he wins the pot.

BB says he had Qh Jh. I believe him.

All the other white old dudes at my poker room are capable of folding a Jack here, even AJ. So I went with that read.

It's just too bad CO also had top pair.

For a single bet for stacks for this little actual $, I'd expect TP to never fold (surprising that first guy did, imo). But it's not really our goal; it's to fold out Ax / underpairs, and meanwhile if we happen to run into TP hopefully our overs are clean and we bink.

FWIW, BB should not be talking to his buddy about how you play in the middle of the hand. Dealer should definitely squash this immediately and if not you should shoot the dealer a glance and/or speak up to protect your hand ("sir, one player to a hand / there's another player in the hand" or whatever).
