My image TAG, clean image. V Indian fish who doesn't know wtf he's doing and has major calling station tendencies. He sizes his 3-bets 2X. I have AQ in UTG+1, no limpers and I open to $30. V is right on my left and makes it $60. Folds around to me.

I'm getting 3:1 to call. That means I should have at least 25% equity vs his range, right. I estimate his range to be JJ+, AK. I stoved this and it shows 19% equity. That means I shouldn't call?

If your range is accurate this hand has major reverse implied odds. I'm folding this all day.

fold. dont raise so much pre, you are just throwing money away... raise to 15-20.

Your opening size with AQ here should take into consideration of the table dynamic.

How has the table been playing, loose/tight?

If a 6x raise on such table will only get you called by ak/jj/qq etc, then you are raising too much.
But on the other hand if everyone is calling stuff like QT/QJ/Asxs/KQ for 30 preflop then that raising size is fine.

It basically depends on your table as you are looking to max your value against certain ranges.

Oh also since he is a station, you'll have no fold equity against him. Against a weak tight player who plays face up you can get a fold on a lot of boards. It's a clear fold even though it's a min 3 bet and oh so tempting.

Better to call with a pocket pair or suited connectors in this spot since you get major implied odds.

Against a competent tight villain, AQ is very much a RIO hand here and should be given up, but against a stationary fish this can be tempting. This depends on implied odds and villain's tendencies. You not getting the direct odds you need, but you don't have to make a lot of money post flop for this to be profitable. If your deep enough, you can fish for two pair or better. How readable is villain? How aggressive and bluffy is he post flop? If you flop one pair and are behind, is it going to be hard to tell?

I would rather have a pocket pair or suited connector, but if he is going to minraise, I would call if we are both reasonably deep and villain is easily readable post flop. I'm looking for effective stacks 150BB+ here. Even if villain is harder to play post flop, I would venture a call sometimes with AQs if effective stacks are 200BB+. In this case, I'm looking to flop a monster vs the station and just giving up if hero hits one pair.

My raise is fine precisely because it took into account table dynamic. Anyways, that's not the question of the thread.

It's a response to the post above mine, which said that you raised too much.

Plus, raise sizing is an important aspect of your line. I dont see the point of this thread if you already concluded that pot odds is -ev based on his range, and just wants to know if you should call.

I don't think it is a fold always. It depends on stack sizes and post flop tendencies. If villain does not cbet when over cards come to his pocket pair, then you can call and let the flop check through with A high and Q high flops. Then go for two streets of value.

^ Your chances of flopping the best hand AND getting value from it (so eg. when A hits, you dont run into aa/ak and kk/qq doesnt fold, or Q hits and he paids off with jacks) is much lower than what you are paying to see the flop. Not to mention reverse implied odds on flops like akq, qqk, qjx, etc.

Well it sounds like you think he is a complete drooler so maybe his range isnt that tight? However if it is I'm snap folding AQ.

could his range be 66-TT and he has no clue wtf he is doing??? still seems like a fold but just by how you described him, he could be a completely out of line here and not realize he is...
