Main villain in this hand is a young asian kid who's been at the table for a hour or so. VPIP'ing pretty high and limping but has only shown down winners so far. He sat down with 400, well below the 700 cap and has ran it up to 1k.

Hero has an aggressive winning image. I've been doing a decent bit of check folding if I miss the flop as the PFR (relevant for this hand). I usually only c-bet bluff when I have backdoors.

OTTH 2/5 NL

Effective stack: 1000 (doesn't end up mattering)

Preflop Hero on the UTG straddle with J J

Two straddle calls.
Villain in BB bets 40.
Hero cold 3b to 125 in UTG straddle. JJ is way ahead of this small sizing.
Only villain calls.

Flop (2 players) ($250): K 5 2

Villain checks.
Hero checks back.

I can sometimes c-bet here to get value from single pair hands but not sure how many middling pocket pairs Villain has with his preflop action.
JJ is a decent hand to protect our check back range.

Turn (2 players) ($250): K 5 2 Q

BB leads for 160.
Hero calls.

I didn't check flop to fold to a turn bet. Villain's value hands consist of KQ and sets.
But we also unblock all his turned combo draws since we dont have the J

River (2 players) ($570): K 5 2 Q 2

Villain bets again for 280.
Hero?

Seems like one of the best river cards in the deck to me since it bricks all the draws and makes bottom set less likely.
KQ/55 still seems like likely holdings though.

I like going $150 pre, and$200 if BB is a station.

I used to really like checking in these spots, but I think we gotta bet the flop for protection and can definitely get value, too.

AP, I just fold turn; fold river.

200bb deep 3 bet should be like 180. 125 is too small.

C bet this flop with a high frequency with small size.

AP turn is a fold. Sucks to see this runout but in a 3-bet pot V is highly unlikely to be turning underpairs into bluffs here. He certainly has Kx hands and checks his entire range to you on the flop.

Regarding the flop, I think you are typically betting your AA/AK/KQs (and sometimes your KK) on this flop that you prob have to bet your JJ here. He is never bluff raising this flop so you can safely fold if he does. You may have to shut down on turns if called but you are in position which is helpful. It’s a decent pot to take down if he incorrectly folds a smaller pair or you deny equity to hands like AQ and these hands aren’t making you more money unimproved.

Range cbet flop for 1/3 sizing.

Turn is a fold - that is the 2nd worst card in the deck for your actual hand.

We would rather call a hand like 99 OTT than JJ because JJ blocks a lot of bluffs your opponent could have (AJ/JT).

Okay, I can get behind range betting 1/3 on the flop.

But as played - what other hands do we have that we can check call here? We can easily be exploited by a capable villain if we fold basically the top of our check back range. (ie. we're folding almost everything here after checking flop)

You can check back AA, KK, and AK here if you are worried about people attacking your checking range.

Results

Hero called turn and river. Villain had 45hh for the flopped pair+backdoors and turned it into a 3 barrel bluff.

I guess I'm just a lucky donkey.

^For the love of god, don't check back AK+.

If you don't want to get exploited on the turn, bet the flop. It's literally unexploitable.

cbet flop 33%-50% - it's very good for your range. I think I like a check back on a lot of Q high flops but K52 is too good to check.

(You say he has been limping a lot so this raise should be ringing alarm bells)

Turn would of been tough as Qd is really bad to continue on. Probably checking 90% of my range (Will check jacks almost always) and only double barrel QQ, any diamond combo, and JT and maybe (T9 if you decided to 3bet JT and T9) and will flip a coin on AT and AJ.

Only checking flop vs the craziest of maniacs to induce a turn bet which I will call. This is not one of those players.

As played just fold the turn vs this player since you misplayed flop and are playing blind at this point.
Since we decided to call the turn bet, we obviously have no choice but to fold river here as well. Calling would be a losing play.
