There has been a ton of 3betting pre and lots of raise/folding going on at this table so naturally im playing opposite and doing almost no 3betting.

I think v is a pretty straightforward player but he is a winner at the stake. His stack has been up and down all night.

To give you an idea of how he plays:

I raise in mp with QQ. He calls from bb.

Flop 78J he leads for 3/4 pot i call. Turn J he leads for 1/2 pot, i call. River 2 he leads for 1/3 pot i fold. He shows me the J out of respect i think.

Villain raises from LP to 25, I call with KK

Flop T84

I check, He bets 40 i call

Turn A

I check, V bets 75

If there's a lot of 3 betting going on then this is a good time for you to 3-bet as your 3-betting hands won't be as weighted toward premium holdings. 3 bet pre and bet flop.

As played, fold turn.

What are effective stacks and positions here? Assume you're in the blinds?

I would 100% 3-bet here unless you're very deep (like more than 300 BBs deep) and haven't been 3-betting at all. The fact that there's a ton of 3-betting should make you more likely to 3-bet a premium, not less likely, since you should be more likely to get action. If you want to flat with a premium, wait until you have AA.

Once you flat pre (which again I think is a mistake) I'm fine with check/calling flop. Think you have to fold turn. a straightforward player just barreled two streets against you on a turn scare card. If you wanted to continue unimproved you need to 3-bet pre.

I also don't think you're at the top of your range here. You should have a variety of two pair hands (T8s and all two pair suited combos with the ace), all sets (you flatted KK pre so you should flat aces, which is a much better hand to flat pre) and 97s/J9s which is a much better hand to flat because you can improve.

Well I don't like the spot you've put yourself in. I don't mind the flat for purposes of deception but it has backfired. If you believe Villain has an ace you have to fold. If not call and evaluate on the river. No reason to stop the rope-a-dope now if you think you are still ahead.

Problem is... if you flat turn, he's going to barrel river for sure without Ax. Do you think you can call one more time?

Ug....

While trying to disguise your hand you ended up in a really crappy situation.

I don't know why you wouldn't check raise the flop. Your hand is so underrepped it seems obv.

If you are trying to trap so hard then at this point I think you have to C/C and C/C both turn and river. The reality is villain can have almost anything including tons of Ax.

I think you C/C turn and river and expect to win some and lose some and wish you had raised P/F or Flop.

Also if it does go C/C to showdown I think you use that super passive play of KK regardless of win/lose to exploit and get more aggressive in the next couple of orbits.

I didnt think about check raising the flop because i rarely do that heads up defending my blind. I like doing it 3way

But yeah, I really need to incorporate more check raises HU tho. I like c/r flop and feel its perfect here. Its not at all easy to decipher my hand and he never folds Tx otf
