Just starting a 2-5 session uncapped at a casino I have never played at before so have zero reads on any of the players. UTG raises to $25... 4 people call including hero who holds 44. $132 in pot we see a flop of K43hhh. Checked to hero who bets $80. UTG calls and UTG+2 ships for $1975 more. Action is to hero who has him covered. I obv tank.... try to get a little info and get no response. I ended up folding thinking there's no need to get in a spot where I am 35/65 this early. After about an hour of playing with said moron, I mean villain I feel like it was a terrible fold. Question. Is this a bad fold? Really felt like his hand was weighted towards AK or KQ with a heart, but since no reads thought he may just have flopped a small flush and obv doesn't like value.

Villain's hand looks a lot like a flush to me. UTG has played his hand like a king, so that makes a king from UTG+2 less likely. Without a read, it's a fold. If you later get a read that this player would do this with 33 or the naked A, then it might be a call.

Ive laid down an underset twice in my life live. I don't have a million hours, but I have a lot. If we make a set, we put money in the middle. Period. If we get coolered, we just get coolered. ( I'm just talking about the strategy, not the player, which is all that you know here)

^This is a clear time to fold our set. We block two pair, so the only hand UTG+2 could possibly ship here that we beat is 33. Only 3 combos of 33 and a gajillion combos of flushes.

Never easy to fold a set, but this is one of the few times that I wouldn't have to agonize that much over.

If you don't know anything about anyone sitting at the table, then there is no reason to sit down with 400 bbs.

Just buy in for 100-200 bbs, and if the game is full of terribad whales, then add more chips.

I can fold a set for 400bbs. I wouldn't fold TOP set here because that's a indictable warcrime, but yeah.

Also, it's poor poker thinking to label this kind of thing and the people who do them as 'stupid', 'moron' etc. Someone throwing their money around is exactly the kind of person you want at the table and some of the worst players I have ever met are also the nicest people I meet in the casino.

Just because someone doesn't have a balanced overbet range, doesn't mean that they aren't cleverer and more successful than 90% of professional poker players. Plenty of poker fish who are life crushers out there, and it's better to be that than a poker crusher and a life fish.

Finally, the nut worst players at the table are the ones who are obviously bitter and resentful when a cheerful fish runs up a big stack, not saying you were openly doing that OP but seems like you are giving off that feeling.

^^^^ absolutely not man. I by no means ever berate anyone at the table in regards to their play. If I came off as bitter it wasn't my intention. I told the guy nice hand and good bet.

Well you did refer to the guy as "moron" itt.

I'd fold middle set and bottom set here and call with top set.

I agree, top set is at the bottom of my calling range. Honestly Villian has a flopped flush a large percentage of the time here. Judging by his overbet I would lean toward non nut flushes he's scared of getting out drawn on. I see this far too often.
