Wondering how you would have played this hand vs this villain.
Would you make a c-bet? Why or why not?

Villain (SB) $500
50s Asian man. Bit of a calling station, lost two BIs at 2/3 earlier by shoving vs 3-bettor with second pair type hands in 3-bet pot on flop after he got stubborn while straddling in consecutively dealt hands. Calls wide on flop and turn with literally nothing, e.g. he turned a gutshot and will call that too.

Newly opened 2/5 table.

Hero (UTG) $500
20s Played few hands in the last 30mins or so. Dealt AKo.
I limp in with AK. A couple of limps then V raises to 20. BB calls. Hero 3-bets to 80.
Folds to V who calls.

Flop:
~190
J72

V checks.
Hero bets $100
V calls.

Turn: 6

V checks
Hero checks.

River: 3

V checks
Hero checks.

V turns over: Not what I expected

As a rule of thumb I try not bluff a station but just bet for value with as larger sizing as possible.

In this particular spot, I guess the plan was to LRR for value since you've seen villain open on the wider side?

Board is pretty ripe for a triple, I would have picked a diff sizing tho for max FE by the river, small - small/medium - shove would be the line I'd recommend, if you're not ready to empty the clip with the story you're trying to sell then don't cbet as you're just burning money.

Why are you trying to limp/raise a villain who hates to fold before river? And once he calls your 3 bet, why are you c-betting a station? You can't blow this guy off weak hands. If you had gotten into the hand cheap then c-betting flop would be OK. Villain has to miss more then hit and you need to avoid being 100% transparent. Once it's inflated by your limp/raise then pot is too big to be worth trying to get a station off his hand.

If this guy is that much of a station you will actually be winning occasionally, with villain turning up with something like AQs or T9o. It still isn't worth trying to bet those types off their hands because they will call down with 87 also. Just wait till you actually have some value and then gouge hard.

What was your reasoning for limping pre? Even in a LRR pot you are going to be OOP without a made hand on most flops. Raise pre. If he called a pf raise you have a lot more room and can get out of this hand much easier against the sticky villain.

I don't love l/rr against a station because they will call down our c-bets and we end up with a bloated pot and not great show down value. Depending on table dynamics it's not a bad play, but make sure you have a reason for playing it the way you did.

If we think he is calling turn super wide there might be some justification for betting turn for value. What sort of range do you think he is calling a 3-bet with?

When he checks back turn and river I think we should be betting river a chunk of the time. He gets sticky on drawy flops and turns, but if he's completely shutting it down by river we're most likely ahead or at the very least can get him to fold a lot of single pair hands.

Against this player, I strongly prefer to see all five cards with AK. As mentioned above, the board looks good for 3 barrelling, but if I'm limp/re-raising pre-flop, then I probably make it a little bigger, like 100-120 and just jam on most flops.

If he'll call with any pair, you still have a chance to catch on the turn/river. If he calls with worse, that's +EV. If he folds, then you win a nice pot unimproved.

I actually really like a cbet on this flop against this guy if he is as loose as you say and will call with "nothing" and gutshots alot.

This is a really easy bet for value as we have the best hand here a ton if we will call with 89/8T/9T/KQ/AQ or similar hands

We can also "Cooler" this guy if we turn a superior TP on an A/K turn.

As a caveat: if he raise/calls all PP preflop (this is rare) then it is probably closer to a check
