On vacation in Aruba. Playing 2-5 in a friendly game that can be juicy with a mix of short-stacking tourists and deep regs (Max buyin is $1500).
Hero is probably perceived as solid but who knows. Typically entering pots by opening in position. Haven't shown down much and was down a little less than $200 from pots that were not very memorable.
Villain is a friendly Chinese-Aruban in his 40s who was chatty and good-spirited. He bought in for only $200 but had run his stack up to about $500. He doubled after shoving a combo draw (pair and small flush) on the flop and hitting his flush against top pair.
I had about $300. I would often top up to $500 but decided to grind it out a bit longer at this relatively passive table.
Button straddle for $10. SB folds, BB calls, I call UTG+1 with A
9
, villain in MP calls, button checks option.
Given I am playing only 30BB effective, I can see folding pre being advocated. I limped with a good IO hand given that table was passive.
Flop ($40) is 9
8
2
BB checks. Hero leads $25. Villain calls, button calls.
Turn ($115) is A
Hero leads $75. Villain thinks for 5-10 seconds and shoves. Hero calls.
