2/5 10-handed table. Villian is an asian old guy on BT. UTG straddled, hero($1400) raised to $50 with 99 from UTG1, MP short stack($300) called, villain($1000) called,UTG called. Its a must move table which was just opened without any reads.
Effect stack is about ~ $1k.
Flop($200): 6h 2h 2c. Hero bets $100, mp calls,villian calls,with folds.
Turn($400): 6s. Hero checks, mp($150 left) checks, villain bets $200,hero? his button pre flat range probably includes a few overpairs,6x suited and any two reasonable hearts.

Annoying situation but with no reads I probably find a fold. Villain can't expect MP to fold anything reasonable. It's a good situation for MP to trap because he can easily shove river even if nobody bets turn. Between the two it's likely one of them has you beat.

Is betting the turn such a bad decision? Tough to go into check/guess mode here.

call

an older asian guy otb has more than a 6 in his range including bluffs and semi bluffs and he would have probably raised the flop with a deuce. I may even contemplate a blocker bet otr.

It's not heads up. Villian is betting into two players including one short stacker with only $150 left. Don't you think that he'd bet TT-QQ for value? I see many low stake players overplay overpairs.I'd certainly call turn and reevaluate river with QQ- AA.

Betting is not effective in case we can win at showdown. Opponents won't call any flush and weak straight draws.Medium pairs we can beat normally fold to our turn bet.I think this hand explains how difficult it is to play marginal over pairs out of position facing multiple players.

Certainly very opponent dependent, but yes the key to this thread is just how difficult spots like these can be, especially when the size of the pot gets much larger than the strength of our hand, and being out of position against multiple players.
