I'm about even and have topped off to $2k. Villain sits down and asks me how much do I have. I say around 2000 and he nods. He double checks again a few minutes later and asks 'Exactly 2,000?' and I say yes. He's a 40s WG with a poker hat and get the feeling he knows enough to get himself in trouble. Haven't seen him in this room before.

Table is super passive. Mostly limps and a few players will raise to $15 and then everyone calls again. I've squeezed a few times and people will limp, call $15, and then I get maybe 1-2 callers when I squeeze to $80. I think this is second orbit with V so not too much info. He hasn't 3bet yet in his first orbit.

V is SB and I raise to $20 with J10 UTG+1. Button fish calls $20, V raises to $60. We are $2000 effective with V and fish has $500. I call, fish calls.

Flop ($180) J23

V leads $100. I call, fish folds.

Turn ($380) 4

V leads $135. I call.

River ($650) 4

V checks. Hero?

Thoughts on any street appreciated.

With better reads, I might bet like $150 OTR trying to get called by AK high, but without them I just check back and see what villain has. I don't think you can play any other street different

Calling preflop is fine but folding would be OK also. You are deep enough to play this hand but without any read on villain's range from SB or how he will play post flop getting out while it's cheap is fine. Flop and turn are obvious.
On the river you probably have the best hand but your not getting better to fold and not much worse will call. Against an unknown just check behind.

Eh I think it's close. I haven't played with many 40s wg who would play ak/TT this way and also pay off a river bet. They exist for sure but vs the vast majority we get a fold or we value own ourselves.

I'm just checking back until I see v do something that confirms he's capable of calling with worse. I think you played the hand as well as possible up to this point.

Pretty easy check back, no? Don't feel like we need to turn our hand into a bluff for any reason. Not sure what we get to call that's worse. I guess maybe if we throw $100 out we could get some Ax to look us up, but as others have said, this feels like a solid x back.

Alright, this was just a sanity check. Started the session up and this was one of my last hands and just frustrated me.

I check back and he says 'Queens?'. I don't show and he shows AJo. Just a dumb spot where I should never turn my hand in to a bluff but would've worked this one time probably.

It’s thin but I think I’d go for it, 250. V is clicking buttons so give him a chance to make a bad call. Rest is good.

ETA: just saw results, yes V occasionally shows up with a better hand but betting river is for value not a bluff
