According to Pokersnowie checking preflop is slightly inferior to betting 1/2 pot which is optimal. As you get deeper this becomes a flop check but with a stack/pot ratio around 3 i think you wanna just bet and get it in. CRAI is also good if he is the type that likes to stab at pots when he misses.
I didn't want to raise more because I expected that to fold out a large portion of his btn, preflop raising range. With only one early limp in the pot I wanted to raise small and play KK post flop. I dont know if he is the type of player who bets when checked to in a 3 bet pot so I bet. I was not happy with my equity against his post flop raising range so I folded.

Timing tell on a quick raise to $300? Seems like a set would want to price you in a bit and wouldn't raise quite as much so I think he has Ax a ton here.

I agree with others who have said more pre (I would go $120ish) and now "I stick it in you." Jam

I made the post to read how thinking players play the hand post flop, basically continue or fold based on the information I have on the villain. Maybe I'm posting in the wrong place.
No one is advocating more preflop so that the player folds. The problem with your logic here is that you're over-adjusting to the players around you. Instead of making a small raise so you can play a pot postflop and be put into a ****ty spot, you should instead be putting the villain to a decision preflop where he is forced to adjust to you. And if he's really raise-folding on the button to a 3x raise you should open up your 3bet range. I would rather take his 30 uncontested pre a bunch of times than get into post flop wars.
