Villian in this hand has been playing extremely loose and passive, has rebought three times and has won about one hand. Only raised post flop once in the past 2 hours.

I have about $150 in my stack, I would guess that he had the same behind.

I'm in the SB with nines, and half the table limps, I complete, BB checks.

Flop comes down 8s 3c 5c. I put out a pot sized bet of $15, villian calls.

Turn comes the 2c. I put out a gaybet of $10, villian raises to $30, I fold.
My reasoning was that if he had anything that I beat, say A8, he would call all the way - it IS a scary board, and straight and flush draws have come in.

Why waste the $10? Either make a real bet or just check/fold. If he just calls, what's your plan for the river?

Even OOP? I'd much rather do this in LP; doesn't doing this outta the blinds get us into awkward situations postflop in big pots OOP with marginalish hands?

By limping preflop, you are essentially setmining. You got lucky (?) and hit an overpair board, at which point you have to figure you have the best hand by a lot. I would not assume he has A4, 46, or clubs necessarily--you describe him as very loose and perhaps a little bit tilty, which means the 2 could just have easily given him a draw, as opposed to made the draw.

The question is if he knows your $10 bet is stupid. Is it out of line with your other betting patterns? Would he notice that? If so, his raise could very well be just in response to you doing something odd.

If you think he has no awareness of those things, it is probably a good fold. But I like a $20/$25 bet on the turn much more. Increases a lot of good possibilities, including a c/c river.

As played, I would call, and likely call any blank (non club, over 7) and small bet river.

I'm fine with raising preflop. make it $20. yes it can be a little awkward sometimes but more good things happen. if a lot of people call, you extracted value and you play commit/don't commit on the flop. if only a few call, it makes the hand easy to take down on the flop.
