OP, did you know this guy was aggressive before this hand?

If so, what led you to that conclusion?

People read a lot into Villain descriptions- which is good when it’s strong, but it seems like just a weak read no?

I'm not usually one to rely on live reads -- people often complain that I don't usually include them in hand history posts -- since I haven't found them to be super reliable, and I agree that in general people tend to over-adjust their action based on the opponent.

That said, in this case it was mostly just a strong "gut feeling" that this guy was aggressive from watching him play, but not for any really strong reason (i.e., he hadn't shown down a big river bluff or anything like that before). A physiognomy-based live read, I guess. And while this guy had only recently sat down, everyone else in this room was clearly very aggressive, so maybe I attributed some of that aggression to him as well. Hard to say exactly why I thought it at the time though.

Of course it's easy for me to say this now, because I was right in this case that he would take a stab.

If we're raising a wide range here preflop I might size slightly smaller, although if bigger is necessary to limit the field then fine. And we still managed to get a very big SPR even with this biggish raise so that's fine, although OOP.

I mostly go huge (PSB) on the flop because draws are never folding for one bet. Others will disagree due to perhaps more balancing reasons or trying to eke out some small $ against very small hands. But I lean to going for the throat against hands that will continue; overall, I have a huge hand and I'm looking to build a huge pot, so I lean to larger here.

Turn did complete an OESD but we still have lots of stacks behind. I also continue betting here and I'm fine with our sizing.

River is definitely one of the nut low cards for us, completeing the flush draw and another OESD. On this drawy a board I think we mostly hear from monsters on the turn. And this guy shouldn't have anything left that he can bluff with (other than just getting to the river with complete air to go for the bluff) so I think we can safely fold to a raise. So I bet quite small to aim for those very middling hands on this type of board (something like $60) and fold to a raise.

ETA: I'd be much more cooler with a check/call line if there were a lot more busted draws. But like every single draw got there, so it's just so difficult for him to get to the river with a busted draw that needs to be bluffed (even a very loose AQ that busted can often just showdown).
