I also don't hate a check/evaluate, possibly simply folding to action we don't like.
Ditto for turn. Since he's passive and cally, I'm not as likely to check back the turn to setup a bluffcatcher, and instead I would bet to charge his draws. But again, no reason to go so big, imo. Against guys like this who will never bluff the river we can get away with a 1/2 - 2/3 PSB and easily fold the river if they donk when the draw gets there.
I would check back the river against most players except for the most calling stationist of players. We don't beat a whole heckuva lot that are going to be able to muster up a call, plus we're up against a MUBSy guy who could easily be calling down a very strong hand afraid of the flopped straight.

On the river what hands will he fold that beat you? None. And there's plenty of hands that beat you in a limped pot on that board.

To me a check behind is the way to go. And I like gobbledygeek's advice on betting smaller on the flop and turn. Makes sense to me.
Also, since you've bet every step of the way, he's likely expecting a bet from you on the river ... in his mind why not check again when he hits two pair with K
