1/3 T8s 6way preflop-call, fold, shove? 1/3 T8s 6way preflop-call, fold, shove?

I don't think this hand can be range analyzed but.....

10 handed 1/3, interesting spot. Players and stack sizes:

UTG 300 Good LAG
MP3 425 Good TAG
Hero CO 290 Should have strong image/TAG
BTN 58 Unknown female
SB 150 Poor player/fish
BB 165 Unknown male

UTG limps, MP3 limps, Hero limps wT8s, BTN goes allin for 58, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, MP3 calls. Hero?

Thoughts/discussion?

Every hand can and should be "range analyzed". Here we can give a range of maybe 88+, AJs+, KQo+ to the shortstack. Then we can give a range of maybe top 20% of hands or so for the rest of the players, excluding QQ+ and AK. Against this range you have 14.7% equity. Meanwhile you are getting only 16.667% pot odds. Since equity<pot odds, you fold.

^ Agree to a point here, but the problem with "having 14.7% equity" is that means the hand will see no further action postflop, and we don't have to be faced with any bets on further streets.

True, but the way I see it is we don't really have either strong implied odds after the flop or strong reverse implied odds. The effective stacks are not very deep after the flop. I could see calling pre without the right odds if...

1. The stacks are deep, so our positional advantage has time to develop post flop.
2. We think we are by far the best player post flop.
3. One or more callers already in has a terrible flaw postflop that we can exploit.
4. We have a small pair that is set mining.

Snap fold.

If you are feeling spewy, shove. SB and bb will probably both call because of stack/pot sizes and having 8Ts in a 4way all in isn't too bad. Can you handle the variance of getting it in pre with 10 high?

I probably also just overlimp preflop. The two players in the hand are described as good, so I'm not too sure how profitably just hitting a hand vs them is going to be. But hopefully some of the weak players behind us will come along. We could think of raising (which might get it HU against the loose UTG) but then again it might create a 6way pot with the loose players behind us. So I think overlimping is best here.

Ha, I'm lost after the preflop action. I most likely just take the conservative route and fold.

If we raise (which would have to be a shove), I doubt we have much FE against some of the smaller stacks, so we'll probably be going at least 3 or 4 ways. There will be some dead money (although maybe UTG/MP3 will also feel compelled to come along at this point). In an all-in fest here, I'm guessing T8s hogs up more than it's fair share of equity? But that's against fairly random hands; against hands that are willing to go all-in, I'm not sure if it's doing quite as well; plus if we're in deep trouble if someone has a bigger flush draw.

This is kinda similar to a previously posted hand where we were getting 6:1 and had to call off 10% of our stack. I felt sick about that, but thought calling was ok (especially closing the action). But I guess the question is, at what stack % point is calling no ok? I'm guessing 20% is nearing that.

Since we're closing the action, I'd call 58 and see the flop with our speculative hand. With 300+ already in there I'm planning to stack-off if we hit something (pair, flush draw or open-ender).
