Straddle was kinda mandatory because everybody did it.
Hero straddles to 6 utg, utg+1 limps, btn (600) raises to 15, sb (500) calls, hero calls with 54, utg+1 (350) calls.

Flop (60) 953
checks through
Turn 9524
Hero leads 40, only utg+1 calls
River (140) 95248
Hero bets 80, villain raises to 180

Villain was a tight abc recreational player.

I dont think we should ever check otr to x/c vs this type of player because they will check back too often their 1 pair hands. So i think it is a mandatory valubet and obv b/f but not sure about the sizing. What do u guys think?

Sizing is fine. I think it's a bet fold unless villain can turn ♤A into bluff

A lot of times in my game hands are straddled like easily 50%+. I've never straddled a single hand in 4500 hours. Unless there is an explicit rule that you *must* straddle, you don't *have* to straddle (just don't be a jerk about not straddling and lol it off as best you can). When-in-Rome rules might apply here (especially if this is a home game), but there really shouldn't be much of this in a casino environment.

I fold preflop. This hand has horrible RIO on most "good" hands it makes and we'll be OOP (making everything we do postflop much harder to do).

I'm also checking (to fold) the flop.

I'm fine with the turn bet.

Against a tight recreational player, I would bet/fold extremely small on the river. He's simply not going to pay off a larger bet where the $$$ starts meaning something on a flush/straighty board with worse enough if we bet too large. I think we are forced to bet as this type of player is unlikely to bluff whiffed draws if we check and will insta-check back some hands that will think about calling a small bet. So I would go no more than $50 here (even a "same bet" is fine), and easily fold to a raise. ETA: And with our hand being so weak, if there is a chance that even TP often doesn't pay off, then there is an argument for check/folding against this player type; the nittier image we have, the more we may have to consider this.

How do people react to you not straddling?

They don't care. Lottsa people don't straddle; even at tables with a high straddle rate of 70% means 3 people outta 10 ain't straddling. People can do whatever they want, and they're there to gambool it up and straddle and build a big pot have fun; they couldn't care less if some guy at the end of the table isn't straddling.

But obviously just don't be a jerk about it. For example, I don't get in the way of any shoots / bomb pots / etc.; I just ask to be dealt in for BBJ purposes and fold blind and let them have their fun.

If you feel when-in-Rome rules apply to your situation, then maybe this differs. But it shouldn't in a typical run-of-the-mill LLSNL game in your typical casino.
