That's a very results-oriented way of thinking... remember that I'm playing against a range of hands, not a specific hand, so however he reacted to the bet I made in this specific instance does not determine how good my bet was.
Eg. If villain has a busted straight draw, then checking is best, but if villain has AK, then a large sized bet is best.
