Hi all,

1/3 game.

V: covers me. Prob early 30s. I’ve only been playing with him for about an hour.

I saw him pot a river with j10 when he missed an open ended

OTTH: he limps UTG, 2 other limp

I raise HJ to 21
Folds to him he calls others fold

(51) Flop Ah 5s 9d

Check I bet 15 he calls

(81) Turn Ad

Check check

River Qd

He bets 40

Mandatory snap?

Yea calling now, esp given he is capable of bluffing rivers in HH
I would of bet bigger otf, don't want him to float light here we have Q high

His image has impacted your decision. Against a typical V, this isn't a snap call.

The Q is range-neutral; opening H has as many Qx as UTG limp/flat V. And yet V decides to go on offense on river. Worse still, he has made a value bet, not a bluffy PSB. Why?

I think because he wants a call from all your Qx. He isn't worried H has an Ace, probably because V has one or else he has boated up. Your Ax/TT/JJ/KK would have bet turn with BDFD on board.

I understand H is getting 3-1. You probably have to call at these odds and perhaps just for meta-game purposes alone. But I think you're way behind a lot here.

Sort of a loose open over three limpers and two players ip behind but it's defensible.

Barrel turn, I think people don't do it enough and you kept your range wide. Turn bet is polarizing and underbluffed in general, it's going to be hard to call it with weak hands he peeled flop with. I'd go on the larger side to $60 or so, I think he folds more than half the time OTT making this profitable.

When you choose your bet sizes, think "what would I do if I had . . . here." On this board, I am betting about 1/2 pot with my Ax and certainly barreling turn as well.

If he calls turn I am checking back river and hoping he called with a mid-pair or 9x but expecting to lose a lot to Ax.

As played, I'd lean toward folding given the run-out and value sizing.

Flop - a good spot for checking entire range. I'd cbet if there was a club on board.

Why do you think we should be checking flop?

I don’t think he would limp A10-AK and we block AJ/AQ

He does have a lot of 9x here I think

He only has a lot of 9x once he calls.

Nothing wrong w checking without the bdfd. It’s a better check than say 66.

He might not, but we have little info on his UTG limp/call range, which could include suited AX hands, perhaps even TT which could float the flop. He may not fold 9X hands, probably not for a 30% PSB.

I'd check everything here including AK/AA, and delay a continuation until the turn, balancing the hits and misses.

Barrel turn. Checking back turn is fine if you also do it with Ax. If you always bet Ax on this turn, you must barrel turn. As played, mandatory snap call.

I typically just overlimp after this many limpers this early (still 2 behind us that could end up in position, still 4 to react preflop), but we got it HU in position, so fine if that's expected.

Assuming 100bb stacks we've got an awkward 5.5 SPR. Doubt Q high is going to showdown best too often so I'd also cbet the flop. I'd probably go a more painful 1/2 PSB size as I think our super small sizing is a bit in the unreasonable range which could get called by anything or perhaps even played back at.

I'm fine with giving up on the turn. ETA: Actually think I'm more cool with turn barrel idea as others have suggested. Our super small flop sizing could have gotten called by literally ATC, so now let's get those and small pairs to fold.

I guess I call the river. It's possible he called the flop with almost nothing due to the very small betsizing, although there aren't many busted draws (gutshots?) he could be bluffing and mediocre hands mostly just showdown.
