V1: (~$200) OMC from Mexico with heavy Spanish accent. Generally plays tight but can pounce on weakness too. When he has a big hand he usually plays it fast.

V2: ($100) Rabid crack monkey who hates money. This guy is so good to me I'm sending him a Christmas card next year. I play with him a lot and he does not understand poker. His tombstone will read, "Any two can win". Will call pre-flop all-ins with any two suited cards. Sometimes any two cards. For sure any ace. Will chase deuces to the river because if you hit a deuce you'll win a huge pot, man.

Hero ($80): late 30's white regular. I mostly play TAG but I've been opening up my game a little bit more lately and starting to become a little more LAG. V2 knows I can show up with some weird hands from time to time and probably knows that I will adjust my play depending on the situation. I know I should have more chips but I stopped by on a whim and only had $200 on me. I got check-raised all in a few hands earlier when I double-barred with two overs and a gutshot. I made a good show of folding an "overpair".

Hand: V2 (UTG +1) opens to $12. Folds to hero (OTB) with J 10. Hero considers 3-betting but realizes that he will probably end up playing a $200 all-in hand vs V2. Hero calls instead.

V1 (BB) then grabs a pile of chips and shoves them in the pot. It turns out to be $95. V2 goes all-in.

V1 has probably 88+, AQ+
V2 has half the deck. Maybe 75%.

Hero...?

Top-up to a full stack pre.

Fold pre to the raise, we're nowhere near deep enough to call in position with suited connectors. A good rule of thumb for suited connectors is 20:1 stack odds, and only if you're sure you will have position.

As played, if we give V1 88+, AQ+, and V2 the top 50% of hands, we have 28.51% equity. We need to call $68 to win a pot of $172, and this means we need an equity of 28.33% to call. As such, it's a marginally profitable call. However if there's any sort of rake then the call becomes unprofitable. However if V2's range is any wider than 50%, then the call is likely more profitable (but still almost break-even).

As played, call, and kick yourself for getting yourself into this spot regardless of what happens.

If you walk into the casino on a whim with only 200 and see V2 sitting there, you should be rushing to the ATM to draw as much $ you can to put on the table. Anyway, calling 12$ with suited connectors out of your 80$ stack is definitely bad cause you're not deep enough. I think ranging V1 on 88 99 etc is quite optimistic... I doubt guys like V1 are jamming hands like these pre unless he knows that V2 is calling with anything. But then again do these people really jam PPs as low as 8s and 9s pre? From experience I don't really think they bother taking advantage of players and are rather content sitting and waiting for stronger hands to jam in pre. Given the calculation above I guess you can call but that's only if you think he has PPs as low as 88 in his range which I said was optimistic. In your spot I think you just regret calling pre and just fold. Top up!!!
