Villain: aggressive player. Has taken at least 3 pots down with cbets and pre-flop raises. He's only showed down once, but he had the goods. He 4bet KK pre-flop all in. Now he has about 500$ in a 1, 3, 300$ max buy-in. I have a little over 300$ when about an hour in, the hand in question takes place.

V opens utg+1 or 2 to 16$. Everyone folds to me on the button with 10's: spade and a club. I raise to 48$. He calls after 20 secondsish.

(96$) flop. 973 clubs. He checks and I bet 60$ looking to take it down here, which in retrospect I think should have been downsized to 40. He then reraise all-in after a few moments.

The only hands I can think he would have are AA's with the clubs, 99's, AKo, AQo, AJo, all with the ace of clubs, as a semi-bluff, except the 99's obviously.

Their is now 400$ in the pot, and I have 200$ behind.

How did I do? Should I call?

If he flats AA and AJo, he can flat QQ, JJ, 99, 77, any of which might take this line.

I agree, but he's not reraising all-in on the flop with QQ, or JJ.

He can with a club, so that's half of QQ and JJ. I'm saying your assessment of being flipping is optimistic.

I'm showing a lot of strength. Do you really think he would do this with QQ or JJ? I have a hard time believing he would reraise all-in without the Ace or King in his hand. Plus, I'm getting 2 to 1.

You said he's aggressive, it's a 3bet pot which means he puts you on AK, you're only 100bb effective...yes I can see QcQx or JcJx shoving over you. Note you've decided you have to call that shove with TcTx. You need to be stronger to call a shove than make a shove, no?

Given your ranging I'd estimate 38-40% as the min equity to make the call. I'd fold.

Pre - I'm more likely to flat an EP raise. His image is agg but it's only 30-35 hands in.

How many hands until you have a reliable, somewhat reliable, sample size? If he in fact was an aggressive player, then do you agree with the 3bet?

It's more so that he raised from +1 or +2. If he opened MP1+, I'm more likely to 3b.

I see. So, AP you would flat pre, then check/call the flop?

I prefer call preflop
I prefer a smaller cbet
I call it off as played

why would you want to check 1010 otf? Give aq and similar hands a few card? This is a slam dunk cbet and anything else imo is a mistake

I would just flat preflop. There's very little dead money in the pot relative to stacks, calling will likely isolate the raiser (and if it doesn't, big deal, we go a little bit more ~setmining route). He is opening in EP which has to be given some respect. Getting reraised sucks and we'll likely be forced to fold all our equity after putting in some significant-to-stacks money. Let's just see a flop in position and go from there, imo, but I'm passive like that.

Preflop has setup an SPR of lol 2.6 (where stacks can go in super trivially postflop). Thankfully, we've flopped about as well as we're going to without flopping a T, so even though the board is monotone I still consider myself committed (for better or worse). With this small SPR I think you could just simply shove. Otherwise, I'm PSBing it to shove the rest in on the turn. I also don't like our flop sizing (where our opponent most likely has his more equity than they will on the turn) as it will leave us with a bigger bet percentage-wise for the turn (if anything, I think it should be the other way around). I'm not in love with facing the raise, but I think we're forced to snap it off as we'll be in races against overs + draw enough of the time, plus if up against a set / overpair / etc. we do sometimes have flush outs.

Basically, if we're going to build monstrous pots postflop at these stack sizes to create these super small SPRs, there really shouldn't be too much thinking involved with overpairs postflop: just commit. Whether that works out well long term against those willing to also commit postflop will be more a comment on whether preflop is great, imo.
