I'm reading some info about opening up my game. Specifically, opening for a raise in various positions with hands that I don't typically open-raise with.

An example might be; Everyone folds to you in the cut off and you open-raise with QT s .

Is the purpose here to just win the blinds ? Also, the amount of your raise will have a big effect on how many callers you get. The last game I was in, a raise to $16 would get you 5 or 6 callers. So, would you raise bigger with that Q-10s in that case ?

This is a typical 1-2 game with players buying in with $ 150-300.

Not sure that opening Q10s from the cutoff when everyone folds to you is opening up your game. Thats a standard open for any TAG - even a nitty TAG like me. I’d probably even defend a small 3 bet from the blinds with 2 soooted broadways IP. I think opening up your game means opening with hands like Q6s or 53s and maybe incorporate some lighter 3 bets with hands like A or Kx sooted (blockers) and occasionally sooted connecters like 76s 98s 910s for balance and board coverage.

Heh, I must be a rock. I don't usually open with Q-10s there. OK, so what about hands like J-8os or 10-8 os ?

Are you trying to win blinds or not ? And what amount are you opening with given the typical scenario above ?

K5s is a standard open from co in mid/high stakes online
if it's profitable to play that vs proper opponents, who defend their blinds correctly, both by 3betting and flatting at close to unexploitable frequencies and are competent postflop, it's going to be just fine and dandy to open vs live 1/2 opposition.

QTs is a top 12-13% hand

J8s and 10-8s I tend to open as well. Its table dependent though. If the players behind tend to call everything, I might tighten my range and exclude those hands. The goal is to win the blinds or to play poker (hopefully in position) where you will have the edge.

That's out of my PF opening range by a lot. Is there a chart or info available that shows these ranges by position ? I realize it's table-dependent, but it's exactly what I want to try. ( here comes a 2-3 buy in loss on my next game)
