Villain (CO) is a 30s thinking reg.
Hero (BU) has effective stack of $400.

A couple of limps in EP, CO raises $15, hero 3bets BU to $50 with AA, villain calls.

Flop ($110) A63
Check, check

Turn ($110) 3
Villain bets $50, hero calls

River ($210) 9
Villain bets $125, hero shoves, villain folds

This is obviously a very passive line (+face up when I shove river) and probably gets me less value when I'm up against the last A or a club draw, but I figure it lets me make money from some of his other hands like pocket pairs or other random bluffs. Thoughts?

Is the 3B PF unusual for you against this villain/table?

I think this was my first 3b at the table and villain already has me pegged as tight.

Bet flop, small.

AP, raise turn.

We want to get the money in, and the earlier the better. Draws aren't paying anything on the river and I don't think lower pocket pairs are going to put more money in anyways.

Line is perfectly fine, there are a lot of other OK ways to play this.

You should bet the flop like you where c-betting something that missed sometimes. This isn't to target the last AX or lower sets, it's partially balance and partially to target villains who won't easily give up such an obvious c-bet spot.

After that it's entirely about playing villain more then anything. What will keep him in the hand? If he is likely drawing then raise turn, if he is suspicious of raises then raise turn. If villain is passive then you need to take the lead on betting on turn or river. If he always calls small bets/raises then go small, if he has a fold button then go bigger and hope he calls. If villain is weak then keep things small.

Line is OK, you can also bet flop small. It's hard to get paid with top set here vs. a decent player unless they have a miracle AK.

I make it $65 preflop cuz I'm conservative and like to offer poor 8:1 IO when putting myself in spots where I won't be able to fold postflop (and we likely shouldn't be folding too often in SPR 3.5 pots). Our raise offered IO of 11.5:1 (which is acceptable enough), so it's just really all about the level of risk you're comfortable with.

I'm completely fine with our postflop line against a thinking villain (there are lots of other acceptable lines too, but against a thinking villain who can bluff then I think I prefer this one).
