So this is a hand I played a week ago or so..
effective stacks $400.
Hero is BB with A7DD
villain is utg3 makes it 12
3 other players call and hero calls as well.
flop is Ah 8c 7h.
it is checked to villain who bets $30... should we check raise or just call?

Against recs I think we should almost always check raise here as opposed to check call. I think lead is fine too against a rec. We have a huge hand, plenty of action killing turns, if he has a big ace this is the best way to get all the money. If he doesn’t have a big ace we aren’t getting all the money anyway.

x/r all day. Given how many people x/r with TP, you're still underrepping your hand.

AP check raise, but I think leading and potentially getting V1 to raise for you so you can 3! has merit as well.

I'm fine with the preflop call given the multiwayness of the hand and the price we're getting (albeit OOP).
With an SPR of 6.5 on a drawy board I think we have a few options. We could donk/donk/donk for stacks (perhaps re-evaluating if raised / sucky runout), or check/raise to setup a turn shove. However, with no one else calling the cbet we could just flat here and check/raise the turn (where he'll often bet again to protect against the draws and may commit himself). It does risk scare cards. If anyone else had of called I would more be leaning to check/raise.
ETA: Unlike others, I don't think anyone check/raises in this spot with TP, plus a huge amount of players can get away from their TP facing a check/raise that'll put non-short stacks in play (admittedly might be a little image dependent). With a cbet and a calller or two we don't care as much about that, but HU against the preflop raiser who obviously has TP (he's unlikely to have anything else) we more have to consider flatting here and giving him some rope, imo.

I personally like leading out for $30. Many Vs will raise a big ace or a flush draw. Also protects your hand from flush and straight draws, might as well get value from the draws. You have a very good hand, but it's definitely vulnerable.
Since you checked and V bet $30, yes you raise to $100-120.

Any info on villain? I'm x/raising here most of the time as a lot of players will put you on FD and repop AK-AJ or at least call/reassess OTT. Against some villain types I might call and gamble against a scare card hitting the turn, then put in a x/r OTT when they're more invested.

Thanks for the replies...no real info on villain says he is from Texas... Was playing pretty snug and ran up a big stack.
Anyways, yes i check raised to 100 (too small?) And he snap shoves and i call.
He has... 45 of hearts and hits his heart on the turn blah
