1-3 Flopped Set 1-3 Flopped Set

I am playing the 1-3 NL game at the Hollywood Casino-- UTG+2 (Villain 1) was sitting with two racks when I sat down, and has preceded to raise almost every hand for the last hour and is insanely aggressive preflop and will call down with almost anything post flop. UTG+3 (Villain 2) has seemed relatively tight, only history is I doubled through him when I flopped a set on hand 3, he mucked but claimed 2 par (dubious claim based on board IMO).

Hand in question, I am on the button with 22 and have a stack of around 180-200.

Villain 1 raises to 15, Villain 2 calls, 2 others call, I call, and all else fold. (Pot 63)

Flp: 9-7-2, 2 Spades-- Villain 1 leads for 20, villain 2 calls, all others fold, I decide to raise to 65, both villains call! (Pot around 250)

Turn: J of Spades: Both check to me, I ?????

I'm pretty sure with only about 110 left shoving can never be terrible, but I don't really like it but hate checking behind and letting them both see a river-- I'm obviously much more worried about V2 than V1...

If either one of them jam the river, are you calling? If you are, just get it in on the turn.

I probably just get it in here and pair the board while i count my monies.

if you had anything more left in your stack I'd be checking, but with 110 just put it in.

That $65 raise on the flop was too small.....probably should have just shoved.....even though it's and overbet.

As played.....I don't think it matters whether you shove or check.....in fact...I think you might make more money in the long run by checking.

I dont like the flop raise. The pot is $115 and you are faced with a $20 bet and 1 caller with $165-180 behind, here I think you should make it more like $120 (or even just shove), $65 was way to small IMO.

As played get the rest in OTT, the pot is $270 with roughly $100 behind

I agree to shove the flop. It's a dripping wet board, and you have barely more than a pot-sized bet anyway.

On a related note, I don't like folding sets, and deuces are never the overset. That's why I tend to fold them preflop.

You are getting 5 to 1 on the button with pocket twos, I would never fold.
Set over set is extremely rare and especially with the aggressive villain here.

$65 is not enough, either $120 or all in and never fold the river.

I agree, this is a spot to play the ducks. But I think it's good to keep in mind that it's not really all that playable a hand, and often gets action only from hands that either beat it, or can draw out on it.

WOW pfapfap I think you are a bigger nit than me. In another tread you said you would fold pockets Jacks to a single raise from an unknow and now you wouldnt want to play pocket 2's because you would be feared of set over set.

I am not having a go by any means just curious what hands you play outside of AA/KK or does it............depend.

don't let the size of the flop bet have too much influence over the amount of your raise. use pot size to guide you.
the pot size is over $100 when the action gets to you and you raise by....$45?! (on a rainbow board I might choose the small raise, or flat call and pop turn)
MOAR CHIPS PLZ. as played ez shove on the turn, pray for good results.

Under no circumstances are you folding at this point, right?

With the pot over $250 already and you with only $110 left, I don't see how you can avoid putting it all in the middle here. Not many other variables to consider that I see... this is more of a pure math situation than a read-and-react situation.

If you do run into a made flush, you still have upwards of 10 outs... and if you run into an overset, well, "that's poker" (according to Harrington and others).

Hee! Yeah, I'm fairly tight in goofy shortstacked games, and am probably over-cautious about this one. I like calling here better than I like calling a bigger bet in worse position. At least here it's easy to get away on a middling flop, and we have far more information before we're put to that decision.

In these shortstacked games, I keep it fairly tight in most positions. You're right, it depends on who's in the hand and what's happened already, but most players in most of the games I play would play a good number of my discards.

That's why I discard them.

Now, if we're deeper and short-handed, my range opens WAY up, and I'm betting a lot more often preflop.
