Hey all. Question about a hand played last night. I was at a pretty passive 1/3 table with one semi spewy player involved in this hand in the bb. The rest of the Vs did lots of limp calling and were mostly passive.

Hand in question I limped in early position with 66. 3 players behind limp and the spewy V in the bb opens for $15. I call. All others call. V in the bb has $500. I cover. Everyone else involved has $200-$300.

$75 in the pot flop comes Q86r.

Spewy V in the bb checks.

What's our play here? Check or bet. If we check there's a good shot it gets checked through to the turn with the weak passive behind.

Bet, 100%. If no one has a Q, we lose value, but meh. If we want to get stacks in (and we do) it will take three streets against the spewy V (who might also decide to squeeze if you bet and get a caller) and really will probably take three streets with the passive Vs as well.

Get that value. I bet $50. If one of our 100bb effective Vs comes along, pot will be $175, and we can easily get the remaining $235 in over two streets with half-pot bets. If Mr. Spewy comes along, we can get stacks in with 3/4-pot bets. If no one comes along, meh. We weren't making any money on this pot anyway.

SPR is 4, but board is fairly drawless. We could just PSB/PSB for stacks, but on this board, meh. So I'd just 1/2 PSB x 3 for stacks. Checking is pretty meh.

there are so many straight draws out there, T9 being double-gutted...

Always betting, never checking. Make it $50

Checking would be crazy. Bet $45 or so.

Yup, that's fair enough too. Honestly, a PSB setting up a turn shove ain't horrible either, since draws are never folding the flop and Qx is probably unlikely to fold the flop.

Thx for the feedback. Just wanted some confirmation on my decision. Ended up betting $40. Everyone folded.

Sometimes no one has anything worth calling with; unfortunately, that happens. This is why it is recommended we should feel we have ~20+ implied odds for setmining to make up for the times we don't get paid off when we hit / lose our stack when we hit but lose.
