1/3 empty the clip? 1/3 empty the clip?

Hi all,

New table that just started about 15 mins ago.

V1: middle aged guy has been limping roughly half his hands so far
Bought in for the max which is 300

H: youngest at the table. I have 300 to start as well and haven’t played a hand yet

OTTH: folds to V1 who open limps the cutoff we raise to 15 with Jd10d

Blinds fold he calls

(34) Flop: 5d 5s 6d

He checks to us we bet 10 he calls

(54) Turn: Qc he checks we bet 35

He calls

(124) River Kh

He checks we bet 65

Thoughts?

I think he could have a lot of A high flush draws or some medium pocket pairs a lot here

I like the bet to get him to fold his A-high flush draws, but it feels like it may take closer to a psb (or even larger) to get him to lay down a PP, especially since he called the turn.

Too small on river, don't give him an excuse to call with 3:1.

I prefer a bigger flop bet to 15 or 20 with position. Villian could show up with paint here. 10Q, JQ, KQ, AQ, J10. Continuing to apply pressure should fold out Nut diamond draw on the turn.

Going a tad bigger on flop (maybe $15) and river (maybe $85) but I definitely like the triple here, well played.

Flop needs to be way bigger. Post should be set-up so you have a < PSB shove otr. Bluffs like these aren't going to work if you give him 3:1 on a call otr when all the draws bust. If he folded, he probably folded a draw and occasionally a medium PP but i think PP will a decent amount giving the insane price and all straight draws/FDs missing.

Like do you really play KK/QQ this way? 29% pot flop, 60% ott, and then 50% otr? Or even AA? You should be 2/3 flop, 2/3 turn, shove river if you had value (not exact percentages but you'd want to get a lot of money in post is my point). I mean you could also do 1/3 flop, overbet turn vs capped range, shove river but really this line doesn't make too much sense for bluff or value.

Prefer to check back flop which we could sometimes do with the top of our range (KdKx+). 2/3 PSB on turn card which hits pfr range, and follow up with another barrel on river.

If he is stationy, barreling will not work obviously, perhaps solid flop bet then get to river unless improved.

I used to think preflop was standard. I'm not so sure any more. I definitely don't hate it. But now I also think an overlimp is just fine too.

I like our small bet. This will mostly fold all higher single card hands while giving us good odds to chase our flush / overs and setup an easy free card play on the turn.

I don't hate the turn bet as this is a scary overcard and we could now start folding out pairs. I think I would mostly more lean to this with a known nit image against a guy who knows that and who I know has a fold button. In an unknown situation, I might just lean to take my free card.

Same sorta reasoning by the river.

I thought my initial reaction based on title alone was "OMG, what are we doing, why are we setting money on fire?", but I can understand our reasoning here. I don't hate it, and I'm guessing it's a tool I should have more in my toolbox, but I'm still not convinced it's required. Sucks when we run into K/Qdd who backed into a pair / bluffcatching 5x, which I'm guessing is what happened.
