A lot of it is villain-dependent and would take more than a few pages in a book to describe. A lot of it has to do with multi-street predictions of how my opponent will react when I check vs when I bet. Against an unknown early in a session, I am sometimes inclined to take the more passive line and check for information because it helps me get a better read on them for later. Checking to see where I'm at>>betting to see where I'm at.
