Hi all,

1/3 game with a 6 dollar button straddle

The lineup overall in this game is a dream. Bad players with deep stacks. Everyone has around $600+ except for V who has under that.

H: young man. Playing pretty tight pre. Trying to play a ton in position.

V: young as well. He has made some very good/ bad hero calls.

Saw him call with 77 on AKJ and he won at showdown.

I cover him this hand

OTTH: I’m in the cutoff and V straddles to 6 OTB. Blinds fold two limps I raise to 35 with Ac 10h

V calls limpets fold

(86) Flop Kh Jd 9s

I bet 45

He calls

(176) Turn Ah

I check.?? He bets 50 which we call

(276) River 4d

He bets 127 which is an all in

Pretty marginal spot I think... thoughts overall?

Preflop is a little too large

After bloating the pot too much OOP, I would check that flop

As played, just jam the turn. I think checking is pretty bad. Or crai after he bets.

Honestly this looks like button clicking with no plan at all.

would lean to a call as played, especially since you check call the turn and river is a brick

you say he has hero called a lot but what has he shown down when hes the bettor?

lots of Pair/gusthot hands he could have turned into a bluff on that flop

Eh jam the turn seems kinda meh. Sure it’s a scare card and we have excellent blockers.

I would definitely be turning my hand into a bluff against a guy who doesn’t like to fold so I guess a flop bet is kinda so so

Not too much except he did raise Q7 suites UTG and had two pair when it went to showdown

I have no idea what you're saying. What kind of logic is that? You bet the flop against a guy who doesnt like to fold. At least you had a gutshot and an overcard...but then you check when you make your hand against a guy who doesnt fold?? You only had a pot sized bet left. Just jam it in there before he hits 2 pair or some draw.

"Scare cards" are used to bluff with when the card will scare your opponent into folding the best hand. YOU most likely have the best hand now but even if you dont you cant fold now because you bloated the pot already....and you cant check either.

After 2 limps and with a straddle already part way in, I lean to just overlimping this hand. It's really hard to isolate at loose tables so all we typically do is create a massively bloated multiway pot with a very marginal hand. I used to more lean to raising here, but have switched a little, so I am fence sitting a little still. Let's just see a flop for cheapish with position on some bad players and see what happens, imo. ETA: Just realized the Button is kinda non-deep at just $257, where a big preflop raise will setup some trivial but very uncomfortable commitment spots with TP (which I'm not a fan of).

I'm fine with a cbet on this board. We have some decent FE against small pairs. We have decent hand equity against hands that muster a call. I might bet slightly less but whatever.

I also check the turn. We have a showdownable hand that wants to get to showdown without building a hugenormous pot, plus we're fine with creating bluffcatchers. I also call the small bet. ETA: Just realize Button only has a PSB left; we're committed, for better or worse (i.e. preflop), so I just shove now.

Mostly, preflop has setup us for a very uncomfortable commitment spot postflop on turn/river; we *rarely* flop well enough with ATo where we are comfortable being committed postflop, imo. If all stacks were super deep and we could raise a reasonable amount preflop to create a high SPR and some postflop poker, fine, but that's not the case here.
