Villain is a MAWG playing TAG. We got involved in one hand maybe an hour ago.

There was a limp and I iso with JT clubs to $18 cause the limper is horrible. Villain three bets to $65 out of the big blind. Limper calls and I call. We both have over $300 and limper has less than $100.

Flop ($195) J42 one club. Villain checks. I laugh to myself. Limper now leads $10. I laugh again to myself and call. Villain slides out a stack of red. Limper calls all in for less and I insta muck. Villain surprisingly has AA and I'm sad I didn't get to see the turn for free. Limper has TT and villain holds.

On to the hand...

I am the effective stack with just over $400.

There's a limp and I raise UTG+1 with QQ to $15. One fold and villain three bets to $50. Folded to me and I call.

Flop ($100) J86 all clubs. I have the queen of clubs. I check. Villain bets $60. I call.

Turn ($220) offsuit 9. I check. Villain checks.

River ($220) pairs the 6. Final board J8696 with three flopped clubs. Check check and I'm good.

Standard play is to check and pray he checks behind and happily get to showdown. Afterwards, I was thinking if a blocker/smallish value bet might be better. Villain can still easily have us beat and might bomb the river after we check again. If we bet $50-$75, there's a zero percentage chance we're good if villain raises. We can have JJ and 88 in our range for sure.

Although his most likely hand now is AK, maybe if we make it even smaller, like $30, he could hero us?

Thoughts???

What size do you go?

Also thoughts on why you would value bet vs this particular villain. I think we can comfortably range this kind of villain's three bet range to AK/QQ+. If he somehow loosened up to JJ, he's got a full house.

Well I feel that's his range then check. Also just saw clubs came in, check is prob a little more routine.

Ugh, i feel like you shouldve bet somewhere, donked flop, raised flop, or led the turn, but not sure where.

My initial reaction is you bet the turn. you can maybe fold out, or get value from AK, which has at least 6 outs, and has 13 if he has Ac or Kc. similar situation with TT. if he has AA or KK, he probably isnt raising a turn bet because JJ/99 has him beat, rando SCs flopped a flush, TT has an OESD, his hand isnt that exciting, he may even fold AA if he doesnt have Ac. you should be sad folding to a turn bet as is, so youll lose some momey to JJ/99 who will raise of course, but it will also avoid a turn bouff taking you off your value.

as played check and pray seems good.

FYI for the first hand calling 65 with JTss on a 300 stack is horrible .

2nd hand yes I'm definitely betting for value !!!!!! Like you said if you get raised you know your beat and you would call a bet of 100 so might as well bet it yourself !

I bet 100.

I don't think we want to ISO PF with JTss just because the limper is horrible, for future reference.

AP, Not much else you could do besides what you did. Just we should not be calling PF here.

I do. Raising a bad limper with suited connectors is a bread and butter play of mine. Calling the reraise with these stacks sizes was pretty bad though.

I like betting flop & turn here - half pot or so is good. People will call with AK & a lot of clubs. Check/call reasonable bets on river. As played, it's tough to get value from much of anything (which is why I bet flop/turn), I guess he could check behind AJ/KJ, maybe TT where he might call on the river. A small bet of ~ $75 is ok.
