Playing 1/3 local Casino

7 handed

Hero $600
Villain $1000

Villain old guy regular. Has been mixing in limp/calling with large bets. Haven't seen him showdown much other than couple random 2 pair hands.
Saw him limp raise $200.00 with 46o vs guy that just sat down earlier.

Hero in SB. Button Straddle to $6.

Hero raises to $20 with AKhh.

BB Calls

Villain Calls

Pot 60. Flop is 446 rainbow. 6h.

hero checks. Villain bets 30. BB folds. Hero calls.

Pot 120. Turn is Jh.

Hero checks. Villain bets 70. Hero calls.

Pot 360. River offsuit 8.

Hero checks. Villain bets 140. Hero?

I played this terribly. Any merit to Hero calling, x/r flop, or barreling this board?

I would c bet the flop, don't really want to check call with AK high with BDNFD here oop. As played I would x/r turn to like 200 and shove most rivers. Fold river as played.

If we're pretty deep with everyone then (200bbs+) then we can probably do whatever we want preflop. I don't like building big pots OOP but this hand can often handle that so whatever.

If we're not cbetting then I think I would just check/fold. Our IO aren't great on our A/K overs (especially compared to our terrible RIO if they ain't good) and we're going to be OOP deep.

Pretty dicey turn call. Calling on paired boards is super dangerous (we could easily have a lot fewer outs than we think). Plus we're OOP (much harder to get our flush paid off in position or play A/K rivers well).

I just check/fold river.

We don't have to win every pot we play. In fact, we can win very few of them and still turn a tidy profit.

Why did we check the flop? It's pretty dry and on average you should have the best hand. Checking forces you into playing a guessing game OOP.

Let's give ourselves a chance to take it down now and then we'll have a bit more information at least if villain calls. A lot of people wont try to float air but they will bet air when checked to.

And even if we wanted to check to induce, we are nearly guaranteed to be faced with a double barrel, possibly triple barrel.

Vs a loose bluffy straddler we are going to have to show this down on good boards for us.

As played, Turn is fine. river is a check/decide based on how it hits his range and any tells you can pick up.

8 helps his range but it's unclear if he would be polarized or if he would actually vbet a pair of 8s.

What makes me want to fold is your observation of him LRR to 200 with air earlier. I would expect to see a larger river bet here if he was bluffing air.

He has been making reasonable 1/2pot bets this whole hand. Makes me think he is more likely to want action here.

cbet flop, barrel turn, give up river.

ap seems completely fine as long as you folded river. not raising at any point if we decide to x/call with a-high

We have the best hand here literally a lot of the times. x/folding is literally cancer GG esp with backdoor hearts. unless they flopped trips or a FH our A/K outs are basically always good.

Barrel flop, double barrel turn, triple barrel river! Easily repping JJ+ from SB.
