1/3 3 Handed

Hero is on the button with roughly $600.
Villain is in Big Blind with roughly $900. (Very good loose aggro player)

Hero raises to $10 with 6♣️8♣️
SB Folds
Villain calls $7 more

Pot $21
Flop comes J❤️7♦️9♠️

Villain checks
Hero bets $10
Villain raises to $35

My question is what is more optimal call or raise?

Standard call here in position against an aggressive player. Don't see any point in reraising again...Evaluate after turn and see if he continues applying pressure. Any history on this guy? Has he been known to double barrel or does he shut down?

Re: 1/3 3 Handed

You have position, so control of the hand isn't a necessity here. It's a good C bet with a lot of equity, and he's likely challenging your range and trying to push a fold out of a miss.

Evaluate the turn. If you hit your draw, without filling a bigger draw (T, since 8Q is definitely in his range) then you have the advantage. He probably bets into you, which I would re raise.

If you are playing three handed, then you should be straddling.

Standard call OTF.

Find a new game. Haha.

Call the flop x/r. I'm raising a TON of turns here, though.

Re: 1/3 3 Handed

If my likely opponent is a good player, I'd much rather play in a small pot with them than a big pot (even if we have position). We can also much easier call a raise by limp/calling than raise/calling. So I'd more overlimp, especially if the SB is bad and we want him in the hand.

Even though we've flopped decent equity, the more likely we are to face a check/raise the more likely I'm just checking back here. In general I like the smallish cbet, but against this guy probably not so much.

We're getting 3:1 in position to call. But half of our outs put 4-to-a-straight on board (poor IO, although he could perhaps use that board to bluff) and even risk some RIO against a tricky KQ. If he's testing us, perhaps it is better to reraise here, although he could then reraise us off our equity altogether. We could also just flat and perhaps check back the turn and then bet the river (although an aggro player could put us to the test if he puts us on a mediocre pair, but the fact we called the flop raise makes it less likely for him to make a later street move). I probably just flat but I'm passive like that.

ETA: Ha, fully missed that we were 3handed. I suck at non-fullring, so I wouldn't play.

Raising the flop would be absolutely atrocious unless you are comfortable playing for stacks against Queen high as a 32:68 dog.
