Hi all,

We are the effective stack with 220

V is an absolute maniac who is straddling. Seems a bit tilted since he lost a few hands in a row.

H: playing tight overall

OTTH:

One player limps for 10. We have 8s 8h and limp as well I’m the cutoff

Folds to V who raises to 35 total

Limper folds and we call

(84) Flop is 3s 7s 7h he bets 25 and we call

Turn is a 10h

He checks we bet 65 he calls

River Jh he bets 105

We tank... thoughts overall?

Richard,

Make it 50 pre. As played against this V, close your eyes and call.

Against a maniac and being short stacked I’m either just going all in over his raise preflop or folding. I’d wait for two broadways to jam with probably and fold 88. On that flop I’d just jam all in. I would not bet the turn. I would not call the river. Your short stacked against a maniac which is a good position to be in, don’t give him a chance to bluff you on later streets. Wait for a good hand, get it in preflop or flop and double up.

Usually I would never limp pre with this but the original limper was really bad and I had direct position on him and even if I raised to 40-50 pre the UTG maniac is never folding and 3 betting a fair amount of the time

In most games I easily raise pre here.

As played this was such a tough spot for me

I know he can bluff with spades here but some of the missed spades combos have a 10 and J in them.

I feel I should very frequently be betting the turn here

AP It’s a real good spot to back shove pre, real good. As for raising the first time around it’s going to depend on your strategy against the maniac in the straddle. You need to consider how deep in your range you want to gii pre with 20-30bb and whether overlimp-back-raising that range is the best approach vs raising yourself and not folding pre/post. It might be best for visibility sake against the other players with a similar wait-limp-gii strat to overlimp, but all in all you just get your pair in like the nuts and don’t fold if HU with maniacs this shallow.

Dude you're playing 22 BB effective. Raise and if the maniac 3bets thats awesome, just get it in. If the maniac flats that's pretty great as well. I wouldn't hate limping if you followed up by backraising V.

As played, raise the flop and get it in.

As further played, river is a gross spot. I think it's very close. I guess I toss the money in but I'm not happy about it.

I'm fine with the overlimp.

My plan with the overlimp with these relatively short stacks with all the dead money in the middle is to let the maniac do his thing where I can then jam. I don't think we should just be calling the raise as we're going to hate too many flops and will be in a tough spot when he cbets.

As played, on the flop I jam. Pot is already relatively huge to minimal stacks behind and board does have a flush draw. It's most likely the case that we'll see some stupid cards on later street that we won't be comfortable with.

I just don't think we should ever be playing turn/river spots here. Was our plan to string along the maniac to eke out some sorta maximum value by getting him to bluff? I just think our hand is likely going to end up far too weak to be doing that, plus with him being a maniac he can easily get in it on earlier streets with worse.
