1/2 what is this madness

Villain (BTN): late 20s Asian, typical loose fish ($900)
Hero (MP): mid 20s Asian, TAG winning image ($1300)

One limper to hero who makes it $12 with JJ. Villain calls and limpers calls.

Flop: 866 ($35)

Hero bets $16. Villain min raises to $32. Limper folds hero calls.

Turn: 8 ($97)

Hero checks. Villain bets $60. Hero calls.

River: 3 ($217)

Hero checks. Villain bets $210.

Definitely could have bet bigger on flop. Can rule out a 6 unless it's 66 cause villain would be scared of the 8 and probably wouldn't pot it. Also probably flats flop with 66. He's definitely not good enough to be doing that for value against overpairs with that sizing. Why would he even raise an 8 on the flop? I guess he doesn't want to see an overcard or a three way turn. Also he should have very few combos of 8x just 87s 98s maybe T8s/J8s and 86s/88 flats all day. I need to be good 1/3 of the time here. Can this be 97s, 75s, T9s or random spew often enough?

My default is to fold here. I just don't think the average player at 1/2 will take this line as a bluff ever. It leans toward value way too much especially the pot size bet on the river. You might think that he isn't doing betting pot size with a 6, but it is possible that he puts you on an over pair here so he is targeting exactly that.

Re: 1/2 what is this madness

I think calling down can be okay, but generally it's a fold. Do you think he'd c/r 8x here on the flop? If so that makes us fold a lot more often, but with a lot of players, they will (correctly) almost always not raise an 8, and then also not be able to vb a 6 on the river for such a large sizing. That said, if he's a looser fish then raising an 8 on the flop is completely possible especially when he minraises, possibly to "find out where he's at".

I don't think you should rule out all his 6s...he could easily minraise you on the flop with 67. Then he boats up on the turn and when you c/c the turn and check the river....he knows you don't have an 8 and can jam with no worries

Sizing on the river looks like he wants fat value.

Deny him the chance.

i honestly think at 1/2 or 1/3 you can avoid all situations like this by folding (and maybe its exploitable but whatever) and your winrate will shoot through the roof. i used to think everyone was after me too, but after a while i realized they usually aren't.

Calling flop is fine.

I'm generally more inclined to b/f the turn, especially if your reads/image are accurate.

As played just told the river.

Keep in mind, even loose fish flop him occasionally.
