This hand has been bugging me for about a week and I wanted to get some opinions on it. I was playing 1/2 at my local casino. The hand started with a $4 straddle and it is folded around to MP who raises it $12. This player is somewhat drunk and has been loud and very talkative; I haven’t been at the table long so I don’t have very much history with him. It folds around to me on the button and I call with A9cc. It then folds around to the straddle who calls so we’re 3 to a flop.

The flop is 8c 6c 6s

UTG checks, then the original raiser shoves all in out of nowhere for a little over $200.

I have right around the same amount of chips. The raiser has been loud and over the top but is now just silent, wearing sunglasses and not really giving anything away. Not sure what his thought process was with the huge over bet. He could have had something like A8 or some medium pair and just wanted to shut down any other betting, or it could have just been some weird drunken bluff. With no history on this guy I can’t figure out what he’s trying to do and I figure at best it would be a coin flip. I eventually fold as does the other guy. I told him what I had after the hand was over trying to get some kind of reaction, but nothing. A few people at the table were shocked I folded, even the dealer was like “that should have been a snap call”.

What bugs me is that people seem to think it should be an instant call. I do play a somewhat nitty game, but was this too nitty? If so, at what % equity should I call off my entire stack chasing cards to improve?

This is a snap fold. There's no reason to think that he's ever shoving with a hand that we beat, except maybe K-high flush draw. Our best case scenario is that were flipping.

Two parts to this really:
first.....should you make the call, well without doing the maths directly I can't say for certain but I would imagine with the dead money yes it's long term +eV to call.
Second....this is a really high variance spot where your only going to be marginally +/-eV either way....I don't like high variance and against a drunk I fold and wait for a better spot.

Cool, thanks for your replies... I was starting to think it was a really bad fold with the negativity I was getting at the table.

^ A good rule of thumb is don't ever show your cards unless you have to....No need to give players at the table free info
