Villain is an unknown, 20s WG. Hero just sat down to his left. Hero has $300, villain covers.

Folds to V in the cutoff, who makes it $12. Hero calls with 89s. Blinds fold.

HU to the flop, pot is $27. Flop comes Q99r. V bets $35, hero calls.

Pot is $97, turn is an offsuit 4. V bets $75, hero calls.

Pot is $247, hero has $178 behind. River is a deuce. V shoves. Hero needs to call $178 to win $425.

Thoughts?

Probably a call imo.

Pre: do you consider 3betting here?, probably call more with higher broadway cards and 3bet with 67s 78s 89s etc.

as played V's river shove is extremely polarized.
I would call with my higher 9x combinations (if we ever have any here?, A9s, J9s, T9s?) and fold the lower ones.

Never folding. If you lost, this probably belongs in BBV.

My chips go in a split second after his. Isn't the reason we didn't raise flop/turn was to keep his bluffs/AQ/AA/KK in?

I do like a 3-bet here often, and probably would have if I hadn't just sat down with no reads on the table at all.

I also thought the shove was polarized, but consensus seems to be easy call. I did call and V had AA. I was surprised to see that line with AA. I guess those who think snapcall would see this as a standard line?

If you think this is standard, what do you think V is shoving river for, value or turning AA into a bluff? I would think it would have to be for value. If so, how light would you expect that I should call this down? What hands should I be calling with that V expects to get value from? AQ? QJ? 88?

Is this the way you would play AA or KK? If so, why?

I was expecting to see J9, QQ for value and maybe JT as a bluff.

Feels like one of those spots where you just grit your teeth and call. It never feels great but we are getting a great price and villain can not only be bluffing, but also overvaluing a worse hand like AA KK AQ KQ etc.
