1/2 shortstack shove

Hero $350 UTG+1
Villain $63 BTN

Game has been on for an hour. Hero is +150; recently snapped a $60 BB shove with 77. Villain is a TAG, not much history, willing to nurse a shortstack for hours.

7 handed. Straddle to $7; hero limps, folded to CO who limps, Villain shoves and it's folded to Hero...?

Fold. You're either behind an overpair or 50/50 ish to two over cards.

Let 'em have your $7 and move on.

Re: 1/2 shortstack shove

My first thought is to fold, but let's see.

Villain would probably play mid-pairs this way (leaving you crushed) or high cards giving us a flip. Against a range of, for example 66-QQ (doubt he'd ship KK or AA) and AK-AQ 55 has a little shy of 35% equity and we'd need 41% on a call. If we add AJ to his range we have 37,5%, we actually need to add AT and KQ as well and even then we are flipping.

So how wide does this guy shove? Judging by your description not very wide. You basically need to be able to add worse than AT / KQ and pairs smaller than 55 to his range to even be profitable and this is assuming he won't be shipping AA and KK which would make your situation even more dreadful.

Looks a pretty straightforward fold. No reason to gamble while probably setting money on fire on a -EV play.

Re: 1/2 shortstack shove

Fold. V saw you snap with 77, he's not pushing with any pairs lower than that, or any hand worse than AJ.

Pot is $84 (less rake), and it's $56 for you to call, making the pot a total of $140 minus rake. Depending on rake, your call would represent about 41-42% of the pot, which is why Uprising65 is saying you need that much equity.

Also, you have to worry about CO yet. It's not likely, but what if he comes along or overshoves to isolate?

It's just a fold.
