Is it just me or do all people call preflop raises in 1/2 games these days? I know with 1/2 your typical preflop raises multiplier is higher than higher stakes games just because of the value of the dollar in these live games. I was consistently raising $12 preflop, but everyone calls. Then I tried $14 and same thing. The other day I moved to 16 and still everyone calls who had previously limped in. It seems that it's impossible to move people off their hands preflop if they have already limped in.

If you can find games where nobody folds to preflop raises then you should be doing backflips not complaining on boards.

I havent played much 1/2 but used to a lot. I played a few hours the past month and noticed that the players are a lot more aggro than I remember. Players are better, tighter, and raise more than I am used to. Its weird but players are getting better and its obvious at 1/2.

You just have to find the sweet spot. I usually start at an unknown table opening for $10-$12 and adding $2 per limper and fudge up or down a few dollars.

If I'm on the button and raise it to $15 after 2 limpers and 1 blind plus both limpers call, I'll start making it $20 in the same situation.

I've been on longish sessions where the table dynamics changed several times and I have to keep adjusting my opens up then down then up again.

At tables like this the value of raising non-premium hands goes down. Raising to $15 PF with a trouble hand and getting 5 callers >100bb deep makes it very difficult to fold if you hit TPDK. At tables like this you'll often find that players with get very sticky with any pair or draw, so Cbetting air is also a less valuable tool than most players think. My advice is to only raise premiums, see lots of flops from position with decent holdings, be prepared to 3bet squeeze AI when you are ahead of villains' limping/raising range, semi bluff often and size them large, and basically make strong hands and bet them extremely hard and fast.

Its not just 1/2. You even have 10/20 live games that play like 1/2 preflop(courtesy of limon). Don't worry about the number of callers. You are not getting through the field without seeing a flop in live poker. They didn't travel to the casino to sit there and fold. Take that into consideration before complaining.

Your raise should be creating a dynamic you are most comfortable with. Take them to value town postflop and please don't pay off the draws on later streets.

Value bet, value bet and value bet.

Just keep upping the amount till you are averaging the right number of callers. But the higher that number is the tighter your raising range has to become because the callers will have better hands and most importantly your subsequent bets must be larger.

Preflop behavior wanders wildly at low stakes. I've played at 1/2 tables where $5 could fold out the table, and ones where $25 might get multiple callers. Tables that 6+ way limp around was normal and ones where most hands where 3 bet preflop. You just have to adjust to how the table is playing.

In a game like this you do not want to keep upping the raise amount.
You want to limp suited aces in position. Also limp medium pocket pairs and connectors and 1 gappers.
Only raise premiums and be prepared to fold top pair if u get raised on turn.
Pretty much just make a monster hand as cheap as possible and then bet heavy and collect chips.
