Table folds to the button, player raises to 7$small blind calls I make the call with 97 off in the bigblind. Flop come 982 two diomands, small blind checks, I raise to 20$ the button folds small blind calls. The turn comes ace of diomands. Kurt a solid player puts me all in for my remaining 27$ my 9 is a diomand so I feel pot commited and I call. River blanks.

Your playing super short poker and there are only a few situations where flat calling anything is good. This isn't one of them, it's a trivial fold.

With a stack that size play a very tight range and raise or fold everything. The only exceptions are in limped pots where you can sometimes limp behind in LP or the SB a bit wider.

Post flop is meh. You only have TPBK but a low spr and flop that may have missed everybody means that stacking off is OK. Turn is a terrible card for your hand but your likely committed at that point.

Yeah, I've done a lot of short stacking in the past and even calling an extra 5 with that hand puts you in rough shape. You want big cards and top pair with a short stack as a rule.
