While you make strong points, I don't know how much of this applies to 1/2...The villain here is probably in the 90ish percentile of 1/2 players, yet I seriously doubt he thinks about range vs range this deeply, if hardly at all.

The flop is 8

If Villain floats all his AJ/AQ/AK suited hands OTF then he has

3 combos of AJ-AQ-AK

3 combos of AJ/AQ/AK

1 combo of AK

so 6 out of 7 combos fold.

This is also assuming he doesn't 4bet AKs preflop.

Then what about hands like 88/99/TT/QQ/JJ

3 combos of 88
6 combos of 99
3 combos of TT
3 combos of QQ
3 combos of JJ

we will say 99/JJ always fold. While 88/TT/QQ always call.

So 9 combos fold/9 combos call.

I actually think I was wrong initially and a shove is better after thinking about it - but I'd check A

The fact that we block QQ/JJ here is more important than than the

equity. Since most 1/2 players only 4bet KK/AA.

Hero shoves the turn. What I was thinking is that if I bet around half pot, I have no fold equity at all on the river. Obviously I want a fold but if called we do have some equity.

Then again if I had a value hand I feel like I'd go half pot turn, shove river, so I learned from this hand in these spots I should go with the overbet turn shove with value, too.

nah you can go half pot half pot here and still get folds. overbet is prob fine as well.

looked at Johnnys ranges and villain will prob overfold a little, as (from an MDF perspective) he should be calling pocket 99s (with no heart) as well as QQ-TT,88

going half pot, half pot, you prob get jammed on with 88 and TT as V doesn't want to be left with an awkward stack size. and when he calls you prob get overfolding on any card over a T
