1/2 NL rake at my local casino. 1/2 NL rake at my local casino.

They are increasing the rake at my local casino to $7 (10% max $7)
They also take $1 from the pot to go towards the bad beat jackpot.

Is this game unbeatable in regards to the rake?

I beat the game consistently at a high win rate and good hourly.

Thoughts?

When is the rake too high for 1/2 and 1/3? $7? $8? $9? $10?

In the casinos I play in London rake is usually capped at 10Ł. High but "alright".
Always depends tho, I play couple of underground poker locations where take rake is capped at 25Ł (yes, 25.) and I don't even feel it.

Depends a lot on the field.

Figure how many pots you win per hour. I would call it 2.25 if you play tight. Now since the rake is going up $1, subtract $2.25 per hour from your hourly win rate. Thats what your new win rate will be.

What other thoughts are needed? Your win rate is going to drop by $1 times the avg pots you win per hour. Only you know what your hourly win rate is. Do the math and determine if the game is still worth playing to you.

you basically need to build pots higher pre flop and play deeper.

It is beatable but what is min max buy-in? Start opening to $10 - $15 instead of $6 - $8.

You want pots to be bigger than the cap. Also try and get to the $2/$5 game asap if you can.

The rake is beatable at that buy in level unless the players are all guys that play online all the time. I'd say the only unbeatable game is a game that's 10% with no cap.

Yes it's very beatable. If every pot is constantly going over max it's an awesome game and if you aren't, you don't have to worry about cap anyways.

Has to be a really weird game dynamic to be unbeatable. Maybe everyone buys in for $50 and raises to 7 with 8 callers every time and the board checks down every time. Then when you shove/3b your 2-3%, everyone folds always.

Or maybe your casino is filled with good 2/5 regs so okay-meh 2/5 regs moved down to 1/2 and are infesting the pool?

The other way it's unbeatable is if you are not good enough to beat 1/2...

I've played in 1/2 games where $25 rake isn't too high.

This is not quite accurate. You will lose more from your win rate than that. The exact amount being almost indeterminable because other stacks will consequently be slightly smaller from having paid the increased rake as well, if you are covering those stacks and all of their stack is in. Also, that additional rake could prevent you from having a bigger stack when you win a pot from someone else.

Marginal difference, I know, but just saying. :P I notice it more in California where they use a drop of like 6+2 on any pot that sees the flop. While it doesn't specifically hurt you that often, stacks go from 200 to 100 all around the table in like a couple of hours.
