1/2 NL pushing off the bad beat ... 1/2 NL pushing off the bad beat ...

I am a regular 1/2 NL player at the Borgata and for those who play there they are well aware of the bad beat. I can not for the life of me figure out why so many people push so hard with a bad beat eligible hand to push someone off the hand?

Case and point two days ago. Flop comes jack, jack (diamond), 10 (Diamond). Only 3 people in the hand.

Player 1- has jack jack
Player 2- has 8 and 9 of diamonds
Player 3- never find out what he has.

okay so the jacks guy plays it right at first beating small 10 dollar bet. Player 2 calls, player 3 folds.

Turn is nothing a 4 of clubs. Player 1 then beats 100 and player 2 folds seeing as he did not have a ton invested in the hand yet to chase.

Why in the world would you bet that much? After the fold he shows his 4 jacks and I ask him "Why did you push out someone with a potential bad beat hand showing on the board"? He says I wanted to win the handed. WHAT? So he won about $16 dollars instead of a chance at 80k?

The worst part is I see crap like this happen all the time. People chasing people out to win a quad hand. Do they not understand the concept?

Please tell me this does not happen that often at other bad beat eligible places.

I agree it's dumb to completely blow someone off the hand with quads... I don't know that it's happening all the time but yeah you wanna get value out of your quads regardless of bad beat or not.

In general though... Bad beat is such a scam. Keep that extra dollar in my pots!!

Meh,

I play at Lucky Chances with a bad beat jackpot and when someone does hit a jackpot potential hand like quads they don't raise out the potential hands.

Incidentally, this should be posted in B&M not here...

I don't mean it in the sense that "I see quads all the time" Just in the sense where the board reads like the potential for both people to have a shot at bad beat based on the river and someone powers someone off the hand.

The answer is that most players aren't thinking. Albeit, if there is no chance for a straight flush, a large turn bet is generally fine because the other player with a bad beat opportunity will already have a boat. Yeah, $100 into a small pot is borderline stupid. The other day I was playing 5/10 PLO and had JJ9X and the flop came JJ9. I bet it the whole way, but nothing huge. Another player called me to the river with an overpair hoping to hit (unfortunately he did not hit).

Lmao at the guy betting 100 Into maybe a 30$ pot with potential bad beat.. I would've asked the guy if he realizes that if he loses the hand holding quad jacks he actually wins a lot of money instead..

Honestly it only happens if the player is unaware of what a badbeat jackpot is... so yea it happens but rarely if the BBJ is high because everyone knows it then.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone try to bet someone off a potential bad beat hand when they themselves have a made badbeat hand. Sure, maybe they'll bet smallish on the turn (say upwards of 1/2 PSB) cuz they know any hand that is drawing to a bad beat hand at this point will call, but I've never seen anything other than that. Your experience is not typical.

This story doesn't even make any sense. Why would anyone overbet quad to take down a pot on such board texture?

Sounds exaggerated to say the least.

Player is either ******ed or unaware of BBJ.

I would overbet quads against certain opponents if there was no straight flush draw though.
