Villain is a white male in his mid 40s. He's not a regular, but I've played with him before. He just moved over from another table. It's obvious that he is positionally aware, because the first thing he did when he sat down was ask the dealer for a seat change button. One of the room's biggest morons asked the new guy what seat he wanted, and he responded that he didn't know yet. It was obvious to me that he was looking to assess the game and pick his seat according to who he wanted to have position on. Of course, Moron presses the issue, mostly because he likes to hear himself talk. For some reason, Villain responds that he doesn't know what seat he wants because he doesn't know how everyone is playing yet. I'm not sure what the benefit of declaring this to everyone is, but I guess I do things a little differently.

Villain has said something about how tight I am playing. Nothing out of the ordinary there. People commenting on me not playing any hands is a pretty regular occurrence.

Villain plays a fair amount of pots and clearly has some idea what he's doing. He's not overly aggressive or loose but is not reluctant to get involved.

I have ~300; Villain covers.

I raise 10 UTG with QQ, one caller, Villain calls in MP.
Flop (33): J-9-7
I bet 25, other caller folds, Villain raises to 55, I ... ?

Raise is kinda small, so I feel like it's a AJ/KJ type hand. Maybe I've just been listening to too many of Bart Hanson's old podcasts. Are those still relevant in today's meta?

I don't feel like this is a nutty hand, fwiw. I feel like if this player has a made straight or top set even, he calls and c/r's turn. That's just based on lines I've seen from other players of his player type.

He can't check-raise the turn, because he's in position, which is a big part of what I hate about this spot. I'd feel a lot better about calling the raise in position.

Disgusting.

If we reraise we only continue against better. Clearly -EV, and if he calls us we are in a world of hurt.

He can easily be putting us on AK here and be protecting his equity with a jack. Or he could just be stealing our cbet. So folding sucks.

But if we call, we turn our hand face up since we're so tight. We have 2 streets of betting to come when he can either value us, bluff us, or take free cards as he likes. I'm pretty sure he will get the better of us and calling is -EV.

Since raising and calling both look -EV I just fold here for 0 EV even though it feels awful. Losing a small pot because we are OOP is definitely better than losing a huge pot. Definitely don't show. Let him think he out flopped or bluffed your AK.

If he uses position like this alot we need to fight back with monster/semibluff/air check raises and station him on less scary boards. This flop is really terrible for that though.

Flat. A raise is too close to committing for me.
