1/2 NL: 7 handed at Harrah's NO around 2am
This is Hero's first time playing Live. Played about 1 orbit at the table. V walks up and buys in for $60.
V($60) - doesn't look like he plays poker very often. Long wavy hair. Looks like a guitar player in a punk rock band.
Folds to V in HJ, thinks for 5 seconds, and open ships entire stack into the middle.
Folds to Hero ($195) in BB with Jd Jh...
What is the bottom of our range that we should be calling with here??

For 30BB against an unknown I'm likely calling, especially given your physical description of him, which suggests he will play rather erratically. I wouldn't be surprised to see most pairs, and AT+ in his range, however this is a high variance spot since we're up against a range of ranges. As such, our calling range should be something like AQs+, AKo, 99+
If V looked reggish or over 50, I would likely fold, and expect their range to be pretty much JJ+ and some AK, resulting in a calling range of KK+.
Also, when he bought in, did he have any more money on him? If this is his only $60, then his range becomes considerably tighter, and if he has more on him it's likely much looser.

I dont think he was ever considering folding (LOL) but rather wondering how low we can go to be ahead of his open ship of 30 bigs. Which I agree 99 should be the cutoff with pairs and I would fold AJSS And call AQ off++

Many online players would advocate 88 plus vs 20bb and 30bb short stack non regs. I think that JJ is a standard call and 88 or 99 is a good bottom range.
