1/2 NL. Effective stacks ~$350. Interested in Turn/River play comments, trying to improve in those areas.
Hero, button: bought in for $200 has been aggressive pre in position. Pots won have been by taking a b/b/b line and no showdowns so far. Has folded to a couple of river bets lately. Probably viewed as tight aggressive early, and tight weak on later streets.
Villain, hijack: Early 30s, wearing an auto body hoody and talking about tournaments to immediate player on his right for a bit. Lost a pot earlier with lower end of straight. Seems moderately loose pre, but hasn't show-downed much, has folded to turn 3 bets.
Couple of limpers to hero who raises to $15 with 9s9h
folds to V who calls.
Flop (~30)
4s 5h Tc
V checks, Hero bets $20, V calls .
Turn ($70)
4s 5h Tc 8c
Checked. Im not sure how to range Vs here as they usually never float with air at 1/2 and either have a piece of the board or have some kind of a pair (22-JJ) or broadway (TJ-AK). So, a check is mostly for pot control. Maybe should value bet here?
River ($70)
4s 5h Tc 8c 2s
V bets $45, hero?

I think the way you played it was fine if you call river. Villain has a 10 here sometimes, but he could also have a lot of middle pp's or Ax that we get value from.

I think you want to call because your image has been weak tight on later streets, so in your mind others could be taking advantage of that image.
However I dont think V necessarily paid enough attention to that - he sounds like a rec player who will most of times play his hand straight up.
As played, at the best he's value betting a ten - hes the last person to call you pf, and llsnl players love to limp call raise with hands like jt/qt/kt so those hands are def in his range. With your check on the turn, he knows his ten is good.
At the worst his straight got there. So EITHER way its a fold i think. You really dont need to bluff catch at 1/2 due to all the level 1 thinkers, unless you have specific tell on them.

He's probably betting with everything that doesn't beat a 10 after you checked back the turn. The problem is the only thing that doesn't beat a 10 are overcards he floated with and pocket 7s or 6s. I fold, wait for a better spot.

I bet the turn, probly around the $45 bet you are now facing. If he raises, obv easy fold. If he calls, you can just fold if he bets river, or check behind unless you bink a nine.
Yes, he could have a ten that he calls turn with, but could also have draws, including overcard draws. Just bet turn imo.
Oh, and as played, I call river.

In general, I think pot controlling the turn is better vs. competent, aggressive opponents who are willing to check/raise lightly or check/call/lead scary rivers vs. someone they perceive as a weak-tight player who can fold one pair.
When against a loose low-stakes recreational player, I think bet/bet/check is a better line than bet/check/bluffcatch on this board, unless the guy just absolutely loves to float out of position and will fire the river like a puppet on a string with something like QJ whenever we check back the turn. However, if he's more of a loose/passive player, I think bet/folding 40 for value is correct here. The 8c brings a decent amount of backdoor equity for some of villains range. A5-A2cc, 87, 86, 75, 65, etc. are now calling a turn bet, but aren't calling the river. Checking back most rivers unless a 9 binks.
As played, I'm calling if he's competent, folding if he's on the passive side.
