Location: regional mid-west casino, early evening ~6pm

Context: Hero sat down ~30min ago, watching and orbit or two and waiting for a hand. Villain and hero have sat before, seems to be a competent ABC player (enough so to be at the tables regularly) and doesn't get out of line too much.

Pre: Villain covers effective stacks are $200
  • UTG+1 : Villain leads for $7
  • Mid-late: Two callers behind
  • SB: Hero looks down at KKo (no-heart) and raises to $35
  • UTG+1: Villain calls
  • Mid-late: players behind fold ... action is heads up

Flop: Board comes 997 with pot $85
  • Hero cbets $50
  • Villain flat calls behind

Turn: 3 come off to make 9973 with pot $185
  • Hero fires ~half stack bet of $60
  • Villain thinks for a moment, asks to see hero's stack (move hands out of the way), makes call

River: 4 come off to make 99734 with pot $305
  • Hero checks
  • Villain bets hero all in
  • Hero makes the fsck-it-oh-well call

Villain spoiler:
Spoiler:
Villain shows 98o for trip-9s

Seriously with those stacks the turn is a shove if you're going to bet

i´m openjamming turn. a competent ABC player should have more small/medium pocket pairs or big cards in his call-a-3bet-range than unpaired small connected cards, making a flush or trips less likely.

Omg jam the turn.
Obv. Now we know your beat but wow.. Jam the turn.. Leaving 60$ behind in a +$300 pot for the river is horrible.
You need to be thinking about every street and keep spr in mind...
(SPR in mind ALWAYS)

Ps. Don't post results for a while to get better responses.

Based on V actions it looked like 55-1010 type hand

Loud-and-clear on the shoving the turn ...

Would anyone consider checking the remaining streets with intent to check-raise all in behind any bet?

Just wondering if anyone considers the check-raise doing any better? Better to induce a fold in this situation?

With only a 2/3 PSB bet left? The plan would be check/call not check/raise if villain has a wider betting range than his calling range. You aren't deep enough to check raise

I think it's bad to give a free card on the turn though to someone with a heart in hand

Either shove or check turn. Not enough room for anything else.

I don't get it. Why are we calling here? Villain doesn't get out of line. AA-QQ probably would have raised/reraised pre. Villain called, then called, then shoved. What can we beat here?

Edit - corrected action

Yeah, you can change this read now.

Also, V actually raised pre, then called hero's raise to 35. Really hard to put a 9 in his hand here, given the above read.

However, I would note for the future that he is willing to play AI with trips on a flush board. You'll probably have nice implied odds in future hands vs him (hero couldn't have AK here?).

Correct adjustment after this hand is to rebuy to cover this villain.

Have mod change title of thread to "1/2 - KK pre, great flop for my hand, swallowed by whale".

Turn bet is incomprehensible to this old man. Is that some new wave 2+2 kung fu?

Preflop looks good. It's set up an easy commitment decision postflop on non-A boards.

An non out-of-line ABC villain raised/called from EP. He probably has a big A or a big pocket pair (with AA also being a cooler possibility). It's unlikely he's on a draw, although it's possible he has two big hearts. I would bet on the large side on this flop because I just think he's going to have a hard time folding an overpair here, and I want to get in some serious money before a scare card could scare him away. $50 isn't bad, but I would have went more.

The turn card obviously ain't great because it's possible he had two big overcard hearts and just made his flush. But we were committed on the flop, imo, with this super small SPR of ~2. We still have an overpair with <<< PSB left on the turn. Super easy shove, imo. Don't want to check to allow a smaller overpair + heart to suck out.

Whenever you find yourself at the river in a $305 pot with a rather lol $65 remaining and you have an overpair, you can be pretty convinced you've made a bet sizing error along the way. A shove is the only bet size that can be made on the turn.
